HOT TOPICS
Course for bone marrow beginners:
- designed for pathologists and hematologists approaching BM pathology
- issues include clinical needs of BM examination, cytologic guidelines on BM aspirate, principles
of flow cytometry, basic histological parameters on BM biopsies, and diagnostic algorithms in
myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms
Updates and news of the WHO classification
- The most recent and relevant news on BM pathology, which will be included in the
forthcoming updated WHO classification, will be presented by many expert, members of WHO
roster
Differential diagnoses on BM biopsies
- The principles of differential diagnosis on BM biopsies for plasma cell disorders and fibrotic BM

leukemias will be analytically analyzed
Round Table: Interdisciplinary approach to
myelodysplastic syndrome
- The contributes of the different methods and technologies -i.e. basic morphology, flow
cytometry, cytogenetics, and molecular techniques- will be discussed by leading experts in the
diagnosis and clinical management of myelodysplastic syndrome; a survey focused on the
actual impact of these methods across different centers and drawn from a questionnaire filled
by delegates at the time of their on-line registration will be presented
Bone marrow workshops on
- Four workshop sessions will present clinical cases sent by delegates on: Myeloproliferative
neoplasms
 Myelodysplastic syndromes, myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases
 Acute leukemias: new and rare entities
 Mimickers of BM neoplasms and post-therapy marrows
 After case submission deadline, 63 cases from each continent (Africa: n. 2, America: n. 17,
