FALL/WINTER 2013/14 Class Schedule

FALL/WINTER 2013/14
Class Schedule
11262 86TH AVENUE NORTH, MAPLE GROVE, MN 55369 • 763.391.7700 • www.Amazing-Threads.com
It’s a wonderful time to be a knitter. All the yummy yarns and so many
wonderful patterns. As always, the teaching staff have produced a great class
schedule. This schedule includes classes from September through April. We have
modified our offerings a bit this fall and winter to include some smaller projects
for both new and experienced knitters. We will continue to offer WIPS (works
in progress) & Your Choice classes. These classes allow YOU to CHOOSE
what you want to knit and the instructor assists you in completing your project.
We welcome new teaching staff to our shop as well. Our staff includes Amy
Mahowald, Lindsey Johnson, Sandy Christopherson, Deb Coder, Don Waalen,
Debbie Hutton and myself. Yvonne will also teach a class or two as time
permits, cause we just can’t let her retire.
Also new to our schedule are LOTS OF DAY classes. As always, classes are spaced apart when appropriate,
so that you can finish projects. We want you to be successful. Technique and Skill Builder classes are offered
as well. Please take time to look over the schedule and find a class or two that meets your schedule needs.
The shop will also continue to welcome National Designers throughout the year. We welcome Ann Budd,
October 12 & 13, to our shop. Ann Budd is a book editor and the former senior editor of Interweave knits
magazine. She is the author of Best of Interweave Knits, Getting Started Knitting Socks, The Knitter’s
Handy Book series, Simple Style, Interweave Presents Knitted Gifts, Knitting Green, and a coauthor of
Bag Style, Color Style, Lace Style, and Wrap Style, all published by Interweave Press. Watch for
registration details. Sally Melville will return to our shop in April and we can’t wait. She is a fabulous
designer and teacher.
Happy Knitting

SKILL BUILDERS
Correcting Mistakes
Continental Knitting
It happens to the best of us. One minute you’re knitting
along happily, and then you look down at your work
and see a stitch that isn’t right or maybe even a whole
row out of place in your pattern. Fortunately, knitting is
easily corrected, and you’ll learn from any missteps.
Once you learn to correct them, you’ll be happily on
your way again. Learn to fix those easily corrected
mistakes in order to get on with your knitting. Learn to
pick up dropped stitches and more
This class is geared toward “English” or “American”
knitters who want to learn the Continental or European
method of knitting in which the yarn is held in the left
hand and new stitches are plucked through as opposed to
wrapped around the needle. Some say this is a faster style
of knitting and puts less strain on the wrist and shoulders
when compared to the “throwing” method. The class will
address control of tension as we practice knitting and
purling a new way. Must know how to knit and purl.

Amery Shawl
This shawl can be knit in
2 lengths and utilizes DK
weight yarn. Don has
done this design in
MadelineTosh DK and it
is lovely. Clickety clack,
there’s a train on the
track. Don was born in, and grew up around Amery,
Wisconsin. There was a train that would come through
town and a small depot across from the hotel where the
train would stop to pick up passengers. The border on
this extremely wide shawl reminds me of those train
tracks, and wraps me like home.
