Bradley is excited to announce TenMarks, an online math program that provides your child with opportunities for additional math practice. Some classroom teachers have set up accounts for students on the website https://www.tenmarks.com/login. If your child does not have a classroom login, parents can register at https://www.tenmarks.com/signup/classroom_parent. On TenMarks, your child can practice and master math concepts one topic at a time. They can work on assignments teachers make, or choose to practice on their own, anytime. While they are practicing, your child will have access to hints if they get stuck, as well as a short video tutorial if they need a more detailed explanation. Automaticity is the ability to do things without occupying the mind with the low-level details required, allowing it to become an automatic response pattern or habit. It is usually the result of learning, repetition, and practice. Playing family games help solidify quick math skills and quick recognition skills. For example, dice or dominos are recognizable and memorable patterns (What do the dots look like? What is the pattern for a 6 versus a 3). The same is true of almost all family games. Dice games like Yahtzee include the recognition of patterns coupled with the skills of quick addition and strategy. Board games with counting, spinners and strategy, from Candyland to Sorry to Strategocan help them count, move, anticipate and use logic to win. Card games from Top-It/War to Speed to Uno and Solitare are some great math games to reinforce skills and strategy! Sports and scoring – nearly every sport has math as their basis. Time, measurement, points, angles, statistics, etc… talk with your child about sports! Everyday counting and mental math- mental math problems (single, double digit addition and subtraction, fractions, money multiplication and division). *** Try writing numbers/letters/pictures on your child’s back (facing away) with your finger to see if he/she can identify what the number is. Any number/symbol or equation based on their age level can be used! Finally, Everyday Math Games on the computer are back! Students know their passwords and logins. The link is also back up on our Bradley website http://bradley.dpsk12.org. These games all reinforce “automaticity” and the kids love them! http://em-ccss.everydaymathonline.com/g_login.html Have a great Spring Break! Mathematically, Mr. Wera
