BEER wish to thank everybody for their continuing support and for making the
Irish night a terrific success. We think that there may well have been a couple
of sore heads Sunday morning !!
On the back of the successful night, BEER have donated some money to the
Village Hall for a couple of storage cabinets for archiving important documents
for future generations.
It’s been a time of contrast at the WI meetings.
Mobile Library
First Friday of each month, outside
the pub at 5.00pm. 3 April, 1 May.
In Feb Miranda Ponsonby told us the astonishing story of her transformation from Household Cavalry
Officer to a practising nurse and woman, with the help of a huge amount of determination and a
surgeon’s knife. Surprisingly she made the whole topic into a very amusing talk which stimulated much
conversation in the following days.
Braybrooke Singers meet every
other Friday in the Village Hall at
8.00 p.m. Everyone is welcome
whatever your singing ability, or
even lack of it. There are no
auditions and you do not need to be
able to read music.
There is no joining fee. The cost is
£5 per session.
Dates: 10, 24 April, 8, 22 May
For more information call Steph
Canning on 433195 or Linda Busby
on 462389.
Pre FETE Duck Race
This year, it will be held on Friday 5
June. Someone will visit you to sell
tickets nearer the time. Remember
to support this fun event again.
In March, Owls made a welcome invasion into the village hall when Tony Hewitt of Owls to Behold
introduced us to eight of these wonderful birds. All abandoned by pet owners, or rescued due to injury,
they are unable to hunt so cannot be returned to the wild and are looked after by Tony at his
Wellingborough home.
We learned some fascinating owl facts and had the privilege of getting up close to them during Tony's
one hour talk.
2015 is the WI Centenary Year and Marilyn Knibb won the ballot to be our guest at a Garden Party
hosted by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall at Buckingham Palace. We look forward to hearing about her
experience. In the mean time we enjoyed our own WI annual meal at Wildwood. Many thanks to Alison
for her organisation, the chatter and laughter indicated a very successful evening.
Our next talk, on 13 April, is given by Douglas Maddy an illusionist and is entitled ‘Altered Perceptions’,
how mind control works. We hope to see you there.
Contacts: Lisa Templeton 01858 461028 or Pat Wilson 01858 433711. Joint Presidents.

Twenty four matches are confirmed to be played every Sunday from April 19th through to September 27th, weather permitting of
course! The first home match is against Peterborough CAMRA starting at 13.30 on Sunday May 17 th. A fixture list will be on the

On May 24th, a trip to the Cromer area to play Overstrand has been arranged. Later in the Summer there are two matches being
played to encourage non-cricketers to take part. Watch the Gossip and the VH notice board for details.
If any of the village ladies or gents would like to prepare a tea for one of our matches, then you would be more than welcome to do
so. It would only involve a few hours and you would not have to be at the ground for the whole match. Cake makers are also very
welcome to take a cake for home matches. The tea organizer is myself, Glyn Panter, 07914650373.
Vice Presidents – a reminder that the £10 subs for the 2015 season are now due. Please pay Wally, our treasurer – 84 Griffin Road,

NOTICE BOARD
Parish Council
In 1915, Corporal Jeffrey Satchell of the Royal Field Artillery, son of
Thomas Satchell of Park Hill Lodge, Braybrooke, was given 48 hours
leave of absence to get married. On Tuesday 11th May the bells of
Braybrooke Church rang out when he married 18 year old Ethel Taylor,
daughter of the late John Haydon Taylor of Lodge Farm,
Braybrooke. The groom was probably wearing the Distinguished
Service Medal which he had recently been awarded and which,
according to the the Harborough Advertiser, he was proudly wearing in
the village. One of the bridesmaids, Jeffrey's sister, Lucy Ann, later
married another Braybrooke soldier, Ernest Hardwick in the church the
following year. Jeffrey had to return to his regiment on Thursday 13th
May and later that year he was invalided home with trench foot, lumps
and nervous shock which had taken away his voice, in other words,
shell shock. That same year his brother-in-law, William Hayden Taylor,
joined up aged only 17 and was wounded later in the war. Its unlikely
Jeffrey returned to the front and by 1918 he is listed as being attached
to the ASC Remounts, who were responsible for providing horses and
mules for the war from depots in the UK.
The Neighbourhood Watch Scheme aims
to build a stronger, safer and better
community thus reducing the risk of crime
in the neighbourhood.
The Gossip is printed every 2
months. If you have anything you
would like included it is vital that
you send your copy to us for the
