Montera
50% llama, 50% wool
Montera is a single-ply yarn of a lovely
blend of 50% llama and 50% wool. It is soft
yet strong and knits up quickly at a gauge
of 31⁄2 – 4 sts per inch. Montera is available
in 100 gram hanks in 35 solid colors and 13
heathered colors.
From warm winter sweaters to bright
hats, fair-isle mitts and home accessories,
Montera is a wonderful soft, durable and
time-tested yarn.
SIZE: One size.
Finished Measurements: 6” long x 81⁄4" wide
at opening
MATERIALS:
Montera by Classic Elite (50% llama, 50%
wool; 100 gram ball = approx 127 yards)
• 1 hank Color A — 3808 Peat
• 1 hank Color B — 3826 Winter Berry
Needles:
• One 16" circular size US 9 (5.5 mm)
• One set double pointed needles (dpns)
size US 9 (5.5 mm)
Or size to obtain gauge.
• Stitch markers
• One 11⁄8" button
GAUGE: 16 sts and 30 rows = 4" in Garter St.
Take time to save time, check your gauge.
SPECIAL TERM:
k2tog: Knit 2 sts together (1 st decreased).
PATTERN STITCHES:
Garter Stitch (Gtr St):
Circular — Purl 1 rnd, knit 1 rnd.
Straight — Knit all sts, every row.
Cable Cast-on Method: Place a slipknot on
LH needle and k1, slip new st onto LH needle;
*insert RH needle between first 2 sts on LH
needle, k1 from this position, leave the first st
on LH needle and slip new st onto LH needle.
Rep from * for desired number of sts.
I-Cord: Using 2 dpns, *knit 1 row; without
turning the work, slide the sts to RH end of
needle, pull yarn tightly from the end of the
row, (behind the sts); rep from * until cord
meas desired length.

COVER INSTRUCTIONS
With Color A and circular needle, CO 50
sts. Beg by working back and forth in rows.
(RS) Begin Gtr St; work 4 rows, ending after
a WS row.
Change to Color B; work 4 rows, ending after
a WS row.
Change to Color A; work 4 rows, ending after
a WS row.
Change to Color B; work 2 rows, ending after
a WS row.
(RS) Use the Cable Method to CO 24 sts at
beg of next 2 rows — 98 sts. Place marker
(pm) 25 sts in from each end.
Change to Color A; with RS facing, join to
beg working in-the-rnd. Change to Circular
Gtr St; beg with a purl rnd and cont working
4 rnds in each color; and at the same time,
on first knit rnd, Shape Cover, Dec Rnd: Knit
to 2 sts before marker, slip 1 st knitwise wyib,
slip 1 st purlwise wyib, remove marker, slip 1
st from RH needle back to LH needle, k2tog,
psso, replace marker, knit to 1 st before
next marker, slip 1 st knitwise wyib, remove
marker, k2tog, psso, slip st just made to LH
needle, replace marker, return slipped st to
RH needle, knit to end — 4 sts dec’d.
Rep cover dec rnd EOR 23 more times,
changing to dpns when necessary — 2 sts
rem. Purl 1 rnd. Next Rnd: K2tog —1 st rem.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Fold in half and sew CO edge together.
Button Loop: With dpn and Color B, CO 2 sts.
Begin I-Cord; work until long enough to loop
around button. Sew each end of I-cord to
center of 1 side of open edge of cover. Sew
button to other side of opening edge opposite loop. Block if desired.
