SEAMS AND STITCHES to BS 3870
Stitch Recommendations:





Seam type 1.01.01 unless otherwise stated
All other seam and top stitching 301
Lockstitch 9-10 stitches per inch (11-12 per 3cm)
Overlock: 9-10 stitches per inch (11-12 per 3cm)
All rows edges stitch type 502, 503, 504, 505
Seam Allowances:


Neaten seams: 3 thread overlock neaten, 7-8mm bite
All seams to have a balanced tension stitch, free from pucker, distortion and grinning, with all seams
securely fastened
Classification and terminology of seam types:
Pressing, Packing and Presentation:

All garments must be cleanly pressed with no false creases, unless permanent are required and
stated. There should be no over pressing causing glazing and impressions on the face side. On
delivery, the finished garments should be clean, free from soil, dirt, oil marks and cotton ends
