Dear Parents and Carers,
Another Year has passed!! Can you believe it?
You should be so proud of your student as they
have achieved not only another year of school
but so much more as responsible, engaged and
happy teenagers and young adults. Thank you
for trusting us to lead your kin through this
time. All of you would agree that it is not easy
sending….

your children away from home. I take this very seriously because as a mother of a 12
year old daughter I would be protective of where I would send my child to board and
school. That is why my staff and I work so hard to make Broome Residential College a
place where we would be happy to send our own children.
Here at Broome Residential College we pride ourselves on making the boarding experience as positive as possible. We partner with many community groups such as BRAC,
Clontarf, Our partner schools, local health services and the like to ensure your child is
getting the very best of education, extracurricular activities and care in Broome.
They have the best food, (we have included a sample weekly menu to show you) individual rooms and great gardens and surrounds, the swimming pool, shopping centres,
schools and of course our beautiful beaches. We know it is not home but we hope to
make the College a “home away from home”
However, we cannot do it without the parent and carers help. We need you to ensure
your child is back at the beginning of Term and stays to the end of each term throughout the year. It is heartbreaking to work so hard to ensure each student is booked on
a plane, has the correct uniforms and books ready and appointments for Drs and dentist only to have that child not turn up or to go home early. Unless it is imperative to
have the child home please support us to support your child in finishing what they
start. To learn responsibility and commitment and to make the most of the educational opportunities that they have here in Broome.
Congratulations to our students who have graduated and are going on to bigger, brighter futures. Ranahl Yungabun as a Ranger and Samantha Martin to UWA.
Together we are working to give our students the best opportunities for the future.
Thank you to those parents who are always talking to us about their child, who ring
their child regularly and tell them how proud of them they are. Thank you for ensuring
each student has money for uniforms, shoes and stationary and a bit of spending money weekly to make the most of activities such as movies or to buy personal items.
These simple things do make it easier for your child.
We wish you a happy, safe and peaceful holiday period and look forward to working
with you and your children in 2015.

College Manager
Swimming day at BRAC
Our local pool put up a big inflatable and our students decided to give it a go. Some found it
easy and others found it tough going but ALL found it heaps of fun.
BRC Awards Night
Students volunteered for catering and traffic control. Everyone took their jobs very
seriously and did a great job.
Our talented students performed during the evening. Josh played the didgeridoo, Oseyahn and
Lizzie sang and our BRC band The Boo Goo
Boys played a few songs for us.
Year 12 Graduates Samantha and Ranahl
Staff and students all got involved on our awards night to celebrate all our students but in
particular the graduation of our year 12 students Samantha Martin and Ranahl Yungabun. The evening began with lovely food made by our wonderful kitchen staff and handed out by our volunteer hosts. We then had some musical performances from boarders
followed by our College Manager, Kristine Van congratulating our Year 12 graduates.
Kristine made wonderful speeches while dressing in up firstly as a Cats supporter for Samantha and later as a ranger for Ranahl. She talked about their time at Broome Residential College while photos old and new played in the background of our two students.
Lots of family and teachers attended, and the evening was warm and lovely.

Happy Halloween
Getting ready for the big night.
Fake blood and
lots of imagination
added to our bright
costumes.
Our Halloween evening was a big success with the students putting in
great efforts into helping decorate the dining hall, their dressing up and getting into character.
Trying on costumes and using the face paint was almost the best part. We
had some scary creatures on show that night from vampires to zombies,
demons to gothic princesses and everything in-between. The fake blood
was flying around everywhere and everyone was in for a fright.
College Staff dressed up and scared everyone !! Especially our College
Manager Miss Kristine who as Dracula’s Bride joined in the fun of the
evening dressing up, the students thought this was very funny.
We had the best dressed competition which was taken out by Raju the
prison inmate and Revona the Zombie. Towards the end of the night students pushed the tables back and took to the dance floor with some killer
moves.
Winner of the girls costume: Revona

Malcolm Douglas Crocodile
Park Visit
Students didn’t let the heat bother them as they visited the
Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park early November. Our tour
began with a talk from Ranger David and a play with some
cute baby croc’s. Then it was onto the serious feeding of the
adult crocodiles. Everyone listened while David told us about
the crocodiles and there were exclamations as the big croc’s
jumped up for the meat that was held up for them. There were
other animals such as dingo’s, emu’s, kangaroos and many
different bird-life. It was an educational but fun day out.
Hey
Charm, mate. Get me outta here….
Boarders learning and getting
close and personal with wildlife in a respectful but fun
way. Charm had a close encounter with a very friendly
kangaroo. Maybe Charm
speaks kangaroo as he didn't
seem in a hurry to move
away and followed her along
the fence when she walked
away.
Christmas dinner
Our amazing cook Shontelle prepared a meal that was so good there
were very little leftovers. Students and staff dressed up in festive
clothes for the occasion and we all said a cheers for a job well done in
2014 and happy holidays to come. With tummy’s full and energy high
our boarders hit the dance floor for a bit of dancing.
Staff Profile: Jess
I have lived in Broome for about 4 years, I love exploring the Kimberley with my camp dog Sooty. I grew up in country, New South
Wales. A place called Orange (it’s very cold, too cold to grow oranges and no beach). I enjoy outdoor activities and sports especially football … Go Freo! I have been a Supervisor at BRC for the past
18 months and I have loved every minute of it including the super
fun excursions and all the top sports, I find this position very rewarding and I do my best to help the students though their high
school journey whether this be helping out with homework, setting
up a basketball team, getting the girls dressed up for balls and formals or just being somebody there to talk to. I really do have the
best job ever!!!
Helicopter Visit
The Army recently paid us a
visit to our local football oval
with their army trucks and a
couple of deadly Helicopters.
We were surprised out how
close we got to check them
out.
Our New Chairs
Here’s our boarders colour matching
their clothes, trying to hide amongst
our newly upholstered chairs (yes...we
see you Clarissa). Its like getting new
furniture since our chairs have all
been re-covered making out dining
room look very swish.
