IN-STATE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS
Barton College will award a $500 per semester scholarship to a Broughton senior who has been accepted at Barton
with Theatre as a major. The recipient must maintain a “B” average in order to receive the stipend throughout the 4

Donald Patrick Darden Scholarship. Administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation. Awarded to
children or grandchildren of members of the North Carolina Highway Patrol attending East Carolina University.
Applicants must provide the name of the NCHP member to whom they are related as well as their relationship to

OUT-OF-STATE SCHOLARSHIP
The Art Institutes Passion for Fashion Competition offers seniors an opportunity to earn up to a half-tuition
scholarship to study at one of over 45 Art Institute schools across North America, plus a VIP trip to New York
City.Applicants may enter in either Fashion Design or Fashion Marketing & Merchandising categories. For more

University of Dayton, a Catholic research university in Dayton, Ohio, offers a substantial scholarship through its
annual video contest. Applicants are asked to post a video on Facebook that tells about their future: What’s your
plan? How will you make your mark? What are you going to do, or where will your map take you? The first-place
winner will be awarded a $40,000 scholarship to the University of Dayton. For more information, visit

TEACHING SCHOLARSHIPS
Bennett Place Support Fund’s William Vatavuk Scholarship. A $500 non-renewable scholarship awarded to a
high school senior with a 3.0+ GPA planning to study history and/or Education in college. The $500 monies must be
put toward tuition, fees for lab studies, books and notebooks, computers and related media supplies, or other related
supplies directly related to the pursuit of the diploma or degree. Three essays, between 400-600 words for each,
required. Applications are available in the Guidance Resource Center. April 5th deadline.
Broughton Faculty Alumni Association Scholarships. Each year, the Broughton Faculty Alumni Association
awards two $3,000 scholarships to seniors planning to pursue a degree in education. Applications are available in the
Guidance Resource Center. Deadline: April 10, 2015.
NON-SCHOOL SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Alexander and Maude Hadden Scholarships. These scholarships are funded by Youth Foundation, a non-profit
organization charged with awarding scholarships to exceptional students who might not otherwise have an
opportunity to pursue an undergraduate degree. Applicants must have financial need. In addition, the Foundation
seeks students who, through volunteer work, are dedicated to improving their own lives and the lives of others.
Students who apply must be planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university. They can attend either
part-time or full-time. The scholarship is renewable each year for four years. Grade point average requirement is 3.5
or above. Applicants must complete and return an application, proof of grades, SAT or ACT scores, financial
statements, an essay, and two letters of recommendation. An interview may also be required. The deadline for this
scholarship is February 28th, and the award amount is usually $2,500 - $4,000. For more details, visit

Alloy Education Scholarship Program. Alloy Education is a firm that specializes in student recruitment. To be
eligible for the Alloy Education Scholarship, students must be high school seniors who will be entering college as a
first time, full-time freshman in the fall. Additionally, students must be attending one of Alloy Education’s member
colleges. You can get the whole list online at http://www.collegexpress.com/college/profiles/-featured/, but it is
quite extensive–Princeton, Brown, High Point, Brevard, Catawba, and countless others are member colleges. This
scholarship is quite lucrative–it is worth $10,000, so if you are interested, keep reading! To apply to this scholarship,
students can either register with CollegeExpress (an Alloy Education affiliate) online at
http://www.collegexpress.com/, or fill out a response card from either Careers and Colleges magazine or Private
Colleges & Universities magazines. The deadline for this opportunity is May.
American Legion Legacy Scholarships. The American Legion Legacy Scholarship is a non-renewable scholarship
for children or legally adopted children of parents who are active in the U.S. military, National Guard and Reserve,
including those who died on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. Eligible students must plan to attend full
time a two-year or four-year college or university in the U.S. and be U.S. citizens. Either the student or parent must
have military experience, be retired from active duty, disabled or killed in service, a prisoner of war or missing in
action. Students must demonstrate financial need. The deadline for this scholarship is APRIL 15th of each year, and

Army Emergency Relief MG James Ursano Scholarship Program. This scholarship program assist children of
soldiers obtain a 4-year undergraduate degree. Children of soldiers on active duty, children of retired soldiers, or
children of soldiers who died while on active duty or in a retired status are eligible. For more information, go online

The Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) Foundation awards numerous scholarships
valued at up to $2,000 each to support those training to become heavy equipment technicians. Recipients must meet
academic requirements each semester to continue to qualify and renew on a yearly basis. To be eligible for this
scholarship, you must have an interest in a career as a heavy equipment technician, maintain a 2.0 GPA throughout
high school, plan to attend a college or vo-tech program that offers a diesel technology program, and provide all
required supplemental information to the Foundation by the submission deadline. The scholarship application can be

application involves the application itself, a high school transcript, letters of reference from an employer and an

Benjamin Watson Woodruff Citizenship Award. The Award is valued at $1,000.Candidates must be nominated
by a parent or faculty member. Preference will be given to students who will be attending UNC-Chapel Hill.
Candidates should have a love for a Second Language and have been involved in athletics and/or student
government. See Mr. Rudder in the Guidance Resource Center for nominations.

Bob McGuire Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship, valued at $1,000, is administered by the North Carolina
Child Support Council. Applicants must have an overall C average and been accepted by a North Carolina
University, College, Community or Technical School. At least one parent must be a member of the North Carolina
Child Support Council or a client of the Child Support Program. Applications are available online at

Broughton Alumni Association Scholarship. This is a grant of $2,500 per year for four years during which the
recipient is enrolled at an accredited secondary school, college, university, or other institution of higher learning.
Only Broughton students with outstanding records of scholarship, service to Broughton , character & citizenship
receive this award. Applications are available in the Guidance Resource Center. Deadline: April 10, 2015.
Broughton Alumni Association’s Mial Williamson Scholarship. The Mial Williamson Award is a one-time grant
of $3,000 to a deserving graduating senior who embodies the spirit and character of Mial Wialliamson, a member of
the class of 1949. Due to Mial’s love of sports, a primary qualification for this award is the student’s involvement in
athletics. In addition, service to Broughton, Character & citizenship and scholarship will be considered. Applications
are available in the Guidance Resource Center. Deadline: April 10, 2015.
The Needham B. Broughton High School PTSA will award two 1000.00 scholarships to seniors who are members
of the PTSA and whose high school activities reflect the mission of the PTSA. One academic and two personal
references are required. Applications are available in the Guidance Resource Center. Deadline: April 24th.
(Students have until March 13 to join the BHS PTSA. Cost is 5.75. Membership form available online.)
Buick Achievers Scholarship Program. This program, funded by the GM Foundation, will award up to $25,000
per year for 100 students and $2,000 one time awards for 1,000 students. The program is designed to help students
who are leaders in both the classroom and their communities, but who may not have the financial means to attend
college. Applicants should have an interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries, and be
planning to enroll full-time at a 4-year college or university with a major in one of the following: Science,
Technology, Engineering, Math, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or Design. Special consideration will
be given to the following applicants: first-generation college, female, minority, military veteran or a dependent of
military personnel. More details about the scholarship program, eligibility rules and selection criteria can be found at

ChairScholars Foundation provides scholarships for college and vocational training to low-income students with
severe physical disabilities. Applicants must have a serious physical challenge and may or may not use a wheelchair
for mobility. The physical challenge must be significant and affect activities of daily living. Applicants must have a
3.0+ GPA as well as verifiable unmet financial need and must show some form of significant community service or

Contact Lens & Glasses Scholarship. The Contact Lens & Glasses Scholarship is a pretty easy scholarship
program to apply to that involves two simple steps- first, fill out a form on whether you wear contact lenses or
glasses or do not. Then, write a 500 word essay on one of the following topics: (1) Do you prefer to wear glasses or
contact lenses? Why? (2) What steps would you take to improve your vision? (3) How has wearing glasses or
contact lenses changed your life? This scholarship is open to high school seniors. For eligibility, submit the
completed short survey online at http://www.replacemycontacts.com/topics/6276/1000-scholarship-essaycontest.mvc and then submit your 500 or fewer words essay to [email protected] by April 15,
2015. The scholarship is paid to the school of the selected recipient(s) in a one-time amount of $1,000.00.
The Discovery Education Toyota Teen Driver Video Challenge invites students from grades 9 - 12 to submit a
video about safe teen driving and win money for college. The contest gives cash awards to one grand prize winner
and one first prize winner. To enter, students simply create a 60-90 second video describing how they would make
teens safer drivers. The public can then go to a specific website to vote for the best video. Number of votes will
determine the winners. The grand prize winner will receive a cash award and an opportunity to create a 30-second
public service announcement about safe driving with a Discovery Film crew. First prize winner also receives a
cash award and a free trip to attend a filming of Velocity in Los Angeles, California. Students must be at least 13
years old to enter. They may work alone or in teams of two or four students. Videos are judged according to their
creativity, and the quality of the content and presentation. The contest is sponsored by Toyota to encourage more
students to think about safety when driving. The company's goal is to help young drivers develop good driving
habits that will keep them safe on the road. The deadline for this scholarship is March 16, 2015, and the award

Exceptional Children’s Assistance Center’s Matthew C. Graziadei Achievement Award. The $1,000 award is
given annually to a senior with a disability. All students, including students enrolled in the Occupation Course of
Study, students who will be receiving a Graduate Certificate and students enrolled in the Future Ready Course of
Study, are eligible for nomination. Nominations can be made by either high school personnel or a Vocational
Rehabilitation Counselor and should be based on achievement, not on financial need. Three additional finalists will
receive a check for $100.00. Application packets are available in the Guidance Resource Center or online at

February 18, 2015.
I. Beverly Lake Scholarship Endowment. Administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation. Awarded
to seniors who are eligible for membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans or the United Daughters of the
confederacy and pursuing a degree at an institution of high learning. Applications are available online at

James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Fund was established in 1999 to award scholarships each year
to children and grandchildren of members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. One hundred scholarships
are awarded annually. Thirty-one are renewable and sixty-nine are one time only. Eligible students must be U.S. or
Canadian citizens and plan to attend full-time a four-Year College or university. They must also maintain a grade
point average of 3.0 or above. The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award

John Rudder Character Scholarship. Administered by Broughton’s PTSA Broughton Community Advocates
Committee. The $1,000 non-renewable scholarship is awarded to a Broughton senior who has demonstrated
outstanding character and personal integrity and is planning to pursue post-secondary education. Any senior with a
2.5+ GPA may apply. Applicants may be nominated by seniors, parents, faculty and staff, or seniors may nominate
themselves. Deadline: April 10, 2015.
Gordon A. Rich Memorial Foundation Scholarship is offered to exceptional high school students who have
financial need and whose parents are currently working or previously worked for a company in the financial
services industry. These companies may include banks such as commercial banks and investment banks, securities
brokerage firms, insurance companies, fund and asset management companies, credit card and finance companies
and other similar financial services businesses. Up to seven scholarships are awarded each year, and the
scholarships are renewable up to four years of college. Eligible students must be graduating high school seniors
who are enrolling full-time in a U.S. four-year degree program at an accredited college or university. Students
must have a grade point average of 3.5 or above to apply and be in the top 20 percent of their class. The
scholarship is offered by the Gordon A. Rich Memorial Foundation, established in 2001. The foundation was
created to honor Gordon A. Rich, co-head of Mergers and Acquisitions at Credit Suisse who died in a car accident
at the age 43. The foundation was formed in his honor by his co-workers. In 2013, the foundation awarded
$236,000 in scholarships to deserving students across the country. The deadline for this scholarship is
FEBRUARY 18, 2015, and the award amount is usually $12,500. For more details, visit

Katie Dunn Rogers Scholarship. Administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation. Awarded to an
African-American female senior planning to attend a 2- or 4-year college or a specialized accredited trade school
[such as culinary arts]. Priority will be given to a student who needs financial assistance and who has demonstrated
strength of character and a desire to further her education in a field of her choice. For more information and to apply,

The KFC Foundation’s REACH Educational Grant Program helps KFC restaurant hourly Team Members and
Shift Supervisors pursue their educational dreams. These $2,000 grants help Team Member recipients attend
accredited four-year and two-year educational institutions, as well as trade/vocational schools. Winners are selected
via a competitive application process and may reapply each year. We will begin accepting applications for the 2015
REACH Educational Grant on March 15, 2015.
The Korean American Scholarship Foundation (KASF) is a non-profit (503c), volunteer-managed organization
established to provide scholarships to the Korean American students, encourage community and civic service as an
integral part of leadership development, and nurture the sense of pride and confidence in Korean cultural heritage
and tradition. Our evaluation criteria include financial need, scholastic achievement, recommendations, essay, and
extracurricular activities (including community service). Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 for
college/graduate students and $500 for high school students. KASF is a national organization with seven separate
regions based in Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C. Each region
has its own board of directors and officers which oversees fundraising, awarding of scholarships, foundation
membership, and other related committee activities. The types and the amounts of KASF scholarships offered by

Norah Morris Memorial Scholarship. Administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation. This
scholarship is awarded to an individual entering college or continuing college education who has participated in

North Carolina Alpha Delta Kappa Student Achievement Scholarship. This scholarship is administered by the
North Carolina Community foundation and is valued at $2,000 and is awarded to a graduating senior pursuing a
degree at a school of higher learning. Applicants must have a weighted GPA of 2.5-3.5 and an SAT score [including
Math, Verbal, and Writing] in the range of 1344-1560 or an ACT composite score between 20 and 24. Applicants
are also judged based on their service to school, community, and church, as well as their integrity and leadership
potential. The scholarship accepts the NCCF Common Scholarship Application, which may be downloaded here.

North Carolina Bar Association Scholarship Program. This program awards scholarships to children of North
Carolina law enforcement officers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. Awards range from $250$4,000. The applications are available online at

North Carolina Lions Foundation. Educational grants, up to $1,500 per year, are available to students of blind or
visually impaired parents. Students must be enrolled or accepted in a two or four year program. For more

Peter S. Slomianyj Scholarship Fund. Administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation. Awarded to
Subway employees or children of Subway employees who have worked at least 1,000 hours over the last 12 months.

Regions Riding Forward Black History Month Scholarship is awarded each year to high school students and
college students. Interested students may apply by writing an essay about African-Americans who have inspired
them. Regions Bank awards 32 scholarships each year, two in each region where the bank has branches. One
scholarship each goes to a high school student planning to attend college, and one scholarship each goes to a current
college student. The contest is offered each year during Black History Month to remind students of the important
contributions made by African-Americans. Students must write an essay in their own words that describes an
African-American that has helped to motivate them to do their best and become an achiever. Essays must be limited
to 500 words. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.0 or above to enter. The scholarship is offered by
Regions Financial Corporation, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. It is one of the country's largest banks that
provide both consumer and business banking services and insurance. The organization is located in 16 states in the
South, Midwest and in the state of Texas. The deadline for this scholarship is usually in FEBRUARY of each

Robert Franklin Black Scholarship Fund. Administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation.
Recipients chosen on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, and adversity the applicant has
encountered. Applicants must show evidence of having overcome adversity and should be certain to address this in

ScholarshipExperts.com All About Education $3,000 Scholarship. The All About Education Scholarship is
given to one student yearly who best responds [in 250 words or less] to the following online topic: “How will a
$3,000 scholarship for education make a difference in your life.” Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent
resident and must have completed a scholarship search profile online at www.scholarshipexperts.com. Application
deadline is April 30.
Sharma Family Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is administered by the North Carolina Community
Foundation. Applicants must have a high regard for obtaining an education and the courage to pursue it in spite of
limited financial resources; demonstrate leadership, involvement in extracurricular activities, friendship to others,
solid work ethics; have a purpose and a plan for being a productive citizen; and demonstrate a commitment to

State Employees’ Credit Union’s People Helping People Scholarship. The SECU will award one $10,000 [over
four years] scholarship to a Broughton senior who is recognized for his/her leadership and community involvement.
Preference will be given to students whose parents/guardians/or family members are public sector [local, state,
federal government] employees working in North Carolina. Applicants must have a 2.5+ GPA, and financial need
may be considered. Applicants must be eligible to attend one of the sixteen public universities in North Carolina as
an in-state resident, full-time, and must continue there for 8 semesters. A letter of university acceptance must
accompany the application. Applications are available in the Guidance Resource Center. April 10th deadline.
Students Overcoming Adversity Responsibly [SOAR] Scholarship. Two S.O.A.R. Scholarships valued at
$1,000 will be awarded to high school seniors entering a university or community college. The scholarships will be
awarded based solely on essay entries. The essay topic [1500-3000 words] is “My Life, My Choice: How I Succeed
Where Others Fall Despite My Circumstances.” Applicants must have a 3.0+ GPA and the application must be

Student-View Scholarship Program. The Student-View Scholarship Program, sponsored by Student Insights, is
offering $10,000 worth of scholarship to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college,
community/junior college or career school. The program includes one $4,000, two $1,000, and eight $500
scholarship. No minimum SAT/ACT score or GPA nor essay is required. Simply log on to www.student-view.com
and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a
random drawing of all completed applications. Deadline: April deadline.
Triangle Educational Advancement Foundation [TEAF] Scholarship. Thirty-nine public high schools in
Durham, Franklin, Johnston, Orange and Wake Counties will each nominate two (2) students to be considered for
the TEAF scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of financial need, community service,
character/leadership and participation in high school athletics [whether as an athlete, trainer, manager,
scorekeeper, etc. Students interested in being considered for a TEAF Scholarship should see Mr. Rudder in the

There are hundreds of independent scholarship search engines on the internet, some of them more reliable and
legitimate than others. Students should not have to pay for a scholarship search or to apply for a scholarship, though
they may have to “register” with an email address. Here are a few reputable search engines.
