Ties: Sew the (2) 2” x WOF Black Toss strips together lengthwise with right sides together. Turn strips right side out and press, centering the seam in the middle of one side. Top stitch each long side with a scant ¼” seam allowance. Finish short ends of ties by folding up a ⅓” and then folding up ⅓” again. Press and sew in place. Repeat on remaining 3 short ends. Fold tie in half and stitch close to fold. 22247BJ - Border Stripe • Fussy Cut (4) 8” x LOF - following the selvedge, centering the school house and bus image. • Subcut (4) 8” x 20½”. • Fussy Cut (4) 2½” x LOF, centering the alphabet on the black background. • Subcut (2) 2½” x 20½” and (2) 2½” x 43½”. Mat Center: Using the (4) 8” x 20½” Border Stripe, (2) 3½” x 20½” Tan Supplies and (1) 3½” x 20½” Black Toss sew the Mat Center together following the Quilt Image layout. 22248J - Black Toss • Cut (1) 3½” x 20½”. • Cut (2) 2” x Width of Fabric WOF. TIES 22249G - Buses • Cut (4) 4½” x WOF Miter short ends together. Trim seam allowance to ¼” wide and press towards one side. • Subcut (2) 4½” x 24½” and (2) 4½” x 51½”. 22250A - Tan Supplies • Cut (2) 3½” x 20½”. 22251R - Red Rulers • Cut (5) 2½” x WOF. Sew short ends together with a ½”seam allowance. Trim seam allowance to ¼” wide and press open. With wrong sides together press lengthwise. BINDING 22248B - Blue Toss - BACKING Batting - 34” x 53”. www.QuiltingTreasures.com Yards 1⅜ ⅜ ¾ ⅜ 2 School Days Borders: Mat Assembly: Sew the (2) 2½” x 20½” alphabet on black background to the top and bottom of the Mat Center. With the Mat Top face side up measure 7” from the left side and pin the folded edge of the Tie in place. Baste in place with a scant ¼” seam. Repeat on the right side. Sew the (2) 2½” x 43½” alphabet on black background to the left and right sides of the Mat Center. Layer the Backing (right side down), Batting and Mat Top (right side up). Mat Sandwich. Machine Quilt using your favorite method. This is a great quilt to practice free motion quilting with your feed dogs lowered or use your walking foot with the stitch lengthened to a 3 mm or 3.5 mm. Make sure the ties don’t get way while you are quilting. Attach the Binding to the front, outside edge of the Mat Sandwich with a ¼” seam allowance. Miter each corner and reinforce stitch over the ties. Fold Binding to the backside of the mat and blind stitch in place. Fold the Ties to the top edge of the Mat and stitch in place. You will be stitching through a lot of layers, lengthen your stitch to a 3mm and use a 90 or 100 size needle. Sew the (2) 4½” x 24½” buses to the top and bottom of the Mat Center. Cutting: Layer the Batting 10” x 19”, Blue Toss 10” x 19”(right side up) and Black Chalkboard 10” x 19” (right side down. Pin Crayon Sandwich in place. 22252J - Black Chalkboard • Cut (1) 9½” x 18½”. • Cut (2) 1¼” x 12” Ties. Stitch the outside edges with a ¼” seam allowance leave a turning hole, at least 4”- 6” on the bottom edge of the Crayon Sandwich. Turn the Crayon Sandwich right side out thru the turning hole and whip stitch hole closed. Do not trim corners. Top stitch outside edge with a ⅓” seam allowance. 22250H - Green Supplies • Cut (2) 3½” x 18½”. 22248B - Blue Toss • Cut (1) 9½” x 18½” Put the right sides together of the (2) 3½” x 18½” Green Supplies. Sew each side with a ¼” seam allowance leaving a 4”- 6” turning hole on one long side. Turn right side out and press. Close turning hole with a whip stitch. Do not trim corners. Top stitch outside edge with a ⅓” seam allowance. Batting - 10” x 19” Note: All seams are sewn with a ¼” seam allowance unless otherwise stated. Ties: Starting at the left side of the Green Supplies piece measure 1” and draw a line with a washable fabric pen or pencil. Continue drawing lines at 1” intervals. You should have 17 lines and 19 spaces 1” apart. With right sides together fold the (2) Black Chalkboard 1¼” x 12” Ties in half lengthwise and sew. Turn strips right side out and press, centering the seam in the middle of one side. Top stitch each long side with a scant ¼” seam allowance. Finish (1) short end on each Tie by folding up a ¼” and then folding up ¼” again. Press and sew in place. Make (2). With Black Chalkboard piece right side up place the Green Supplies piece on top, align the bottom and side edges. Sew the Green Supplies piece to the Black Chalkboard piece by stitching ⅓” from the outside edge on the sides and bottom. This stitch line should be on top of the previous top stitch line of the Green Supplies piece. Stitch on each drawn line making the individual spaces for the crayons. Sewing: With the Black Chalkboard 9½” x 18½” piece right side up center the (2) Ties on a 9½” side. The unfinished Tie ends should be over hanging the fabric by 1”.
