Mat Assembly:
Sew the (2) 2½” x 20½” alphabet on black background
to the top and bottom of the Mat Center.
With the Mat Top face side up measure 7” from the left
side and pin the folded edge of the Tie in place. Baste in

to the left and right sides of the Mat Center.
Layer the Backing (right side down), Batting and Mat
Top (right side up). Mat Sandwich.
Machine Quilt using your favorite method. This is a
great quilt to practice free motion quilting with your feed
dogs lowered or use your walking foot with the stitch
lengthened to a 3 mm or 3.5 mm. Make sure the ties
don’t get way while you are quilting.
Attach the Binding to the front, outside edge of the Mat
Sandwich with a ¼” seam allowance. Miter each corner
and reinforce stitch over the ties. Fold Binding to the
backside of the mat and blind stitch in place.
Fold the Ties to the top edge of the Mat and stitch in
place. You will be stitching through a lot of layers,
lengthen your stitch to a 3mm and use a 90 or 100
size needle.
Sew the (2) 4½” x 24½” buses to the top and bottom of
the Mat Center.
Sew the (2) 4½” x 51½” to the left and right sides of the
