The PFP program from Eastern New Mexico

those interested in becoming a Certified Financial
Planner; a professional certification that helps you
to achieve success in a personal financial
planning career.

PFP 320 Business Risk Management and Insurance
PFP 330 Investments: Principles and Policies
PFP 340 Tax Planning
PFP 350 Retirement Planning
PFP 360 Estate Planning
PFP 410 Financial Plan Development
The completion of the Financial Planner boardregistered program is the prerequisite for a student
to sit for the Certified Financial Planning Exam*
administered by the CFP® board.
* Must have a bachelor’s degree to sit for the exam
The PFP program is designed for students
and individuals working in the areas of financial
planning, accounting, insurance, banking
and investment.
Financial planning means much more than just
investing. A financial planner should be familiar
with budgeting, planning for retirement, saving
for education, managing taxes and managing
insurance coverage.
The extensive PFP program allows program
participants to understand all the complexities
of the changing financial climate and allows them
to make the right recommendations to their
perspective clients.
Course Descriptions
PFP 310 Personal Finance
Relating personal financial goals to financial
management including credit use, savings, tax
considerations and risk management. Financial
planning and instruments such as insurance,
mortgages, securities and credit cards.
PFP 320 Business Risk Management and Insurance
Identification, measurement and control of nonspeculative risks of business; fire, explosions,
crime, bonding, liability, property damage, life
and health, pensions, commercial insurance and
self-insurance, methods of preventing accidents
and property loss; insurance as a planning tool;
insurance procurement.
PFP 330 Investments: Principles and Policies
Investment practices and analysis; investment
institutions; investment objectives, methods
of analyzing risks and return; price relationships
of securities; development of personal
investment plans.
PFP 340 Tax Planning
Use of research tools in a professional tax library,
tax planning and tax consequences of individuals
and various forms of business organizations.
PFP 350 Retirement Planning
A foundation course in retirement planning.
Topics include corporate and individual retirement
plans, planning strategies to meet client goals, and
retirement income management.
PFP 360 Estate Planning
Application of estate planning methodologies and
policies to personal financial planning.
The entire program is conducted online by
faculty with an expertise in financial planning
PFP 410 Financial Plan Development
Demonstrates the ability to integrate, apply, and
communicate knowledge of financial planning
topics, as received through the curricula taught
by CFP® board-registered program.
