The Norlender Story
In 1927 , my grandfather started a small textile factory in the basement of his farm house at
Tveiten, a mountain village on the island of Osterøy on the west coast of Norway.
The business grew fast and soon “the factory in the mountains” became a valuable
employer for many people in the district. New designs and models were developed and distributed
all over Norway. In 1947 production was moved from the mountains down to a new factory built on
the side of the beautiful Osterfjord, where the business is located today.
From producing underwear of cotton, the factory turned its production in 1989 to making
woollen knitwear for children, women and men, with the brand name of Norlender.
Norlender`s designs are all based on our rich Norwegian knitting heritage, where traditional
materials are used to obtain the highest quality. Our woollen range has garments suitable for all
occasions; formal, sporty and leisure. Here in Norway the cold climate has been the best teacher
in learning about all the good qualities of wool, which is the only yarn we use.
We are proud of the opportunity we have been given to continue this textile tradition and we
