Note: two balls of yarn is enough to
make two hats with given charts if MC
and CC are swapped for second hat.
Needles
Circular knitting needle (16") and
double pointed needles (dpn) in size
US 5 (3.75 mm) or size to obtain gauge.
Circular knitting needle (16") in size US
3 (3.25 mm) for rib

30 sts and 32 rnds = 4" in Fair Isle St st
with larger needles, blocked. Take

Pattern Stitches
Colorwork Body & Colorwork Crown
See charts on page 3.
Optional: Design your own Fair Isle pattern with the included blank charts.
For best results, avoid working a large number of consecutive stitches in a
single color.
Note
This colorwork hat, shown here in a solid color with a printed self-striping
color, could also be worked in two solid shades OR two printed shades (if you
choose 2 prints with no colors in common). If you choose to draw your own
charts, the possibilities are endless!
Hat
With smaller circular needle and MC, CO 140 sts. Place marker for BOR and
join in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts.
Abbreviations
approx: approximately
BOR: beginning of round
CC: contrast color
CO: cast on
cont: continue
dec(’d): decrease(d)
k: knit
LH: left hand
MC: main color
p: purl
rep: repeat
rnd(s): round(s)
RH: right hand
s2kp: Slip 2 sts together knitwise
from the LH needle to the RH
needle, k1, pass 2 slipped sts
over knit st (2 sts decreased).
St st: stockinette stitch

Establish Rib: *K2, p2, k3, p2, k1; rep from *.
Cont in rib as est for 1".
Change to larger circular needle and work Colorwork Body Chart rnds 1-31,
working 10 st rep 14 times each rnd.
Work Colorwork Crown Chart rnds 1-19, changing to dpn when necessary.
After rnd 19, 14 sts rem. Break yarn and thread through rem sts twice. Draw
up tightly and fasten off on the inside.
Finishing
Weave in ends. Wet block hat.
