Robert Stewart Parker December 10, 1945 to August 13, 2006 Bob Parker was a beloved industry icon for nearly 25 years, serving as president of Sanford, chief operating officer of Newell and president of O’Sullivan Industries during his career. As president of Sanford, Bob grew the organization from a small writing instrument company to a $1.5 billion annual sales powerhouse. He was also a beloved personality among his peers, leading numerous industry organizations and charitable endeavors. Bob was chair of the National Office Products Council for City of Hope during which the annual fundraising initiative enjoyed unsurpassed growth, raising over $21 million from 2003 to 2006. Bob himself was presented with The Spirit of Life® Award in 2002, City of Hope’s highest humanitarian accolade. He was also the Anti-Defamation League’s Torch of Liberty award recipient in 1996. One of Bob’s truest loves was the wonderful game of golf. Nobody enjoyed combining an invaluable industry networking opportunity with a lifesaving fundraiser more than he did. So it was more than appropriate upon his passing in 2006 that the members of the National Office Products Council voted unanimously to change the name of this annual industry fundraiser to the Bob Parker Memorial Golf Outing. Over the past 14 years, the annual event has raised over $5 million for lifesaving cancer research and treatment at City of Hope. The City of Hope Story Located on a beautiful barrier island just a few miles from historic Charleston, South Carolina lies Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the Official Golf & Tennis Resort at Kiawah Island. The Ocean Course by Pete Dye The authentic links-style course with ocean views from every hole hosted the dramatic U.S. team victory in the 1991 Ryder Cup matches. In 2007, they welcomed the Senior PGA Championship and in 2012 hosted the PGA Championship. The Ocean Course became only the fourth course to host each of the PGA of America’s major championships. The course was designed so that players have a view of the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean but also to expose golfers to the often-strong winds in the area. It has been consistently named as one of the best courses in the world by several publications such as Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. As of 2013, The Ocean Course was rated 21st in Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses in America and 4th on Best Public Course List. Pete Dye returned to the resort in 2002 and 2003 to renovate his windswept masterpiece, moving the 18th green even closer to the ocean’s edge. The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort Reminiscent of a grand Southern seaside mansion, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort overlooks the island’s famous beach and championship golf course. Recently awarded Forbes’ Five Star and AAA’s prestigious Five Diamond rating, the Sanctuary offers some of America’s most spacious and luxurious accommodations, all with fabulous balconies and nearly all with ocean views. Dining venues include the sumptuous Ocean Room and Jasmine Porch, a casually elegant seaside restaurant. The Sanctuary Spa, a unique Lowcountry-inspired retreat that includes a full-service salon, adds a deeply satisfying enhancement to your stay. City of Hope is committed to transforming the future.
