Principal’s Report
Dear Parents,
During week 9 and 10 our staff conducted parent
teacher interviews. Thank you to the parents who
took time out of their busy schedules to attend our
interviews. This year we had over 90% of parents
attending interviews times. This is an extremely
impressive figure and is a clear demonstration of
how highly our community values the education of
our students. I would like to thank staff for the
time they gave to provide parents with this
valuable opportunity. Parent teacher interviews
are a very important time to gain an insight into
your child’s progress.
Congratulations to our parents who participated in the
literacy workshops with Mrs Phillips. It was wonderful
to see so many parents actively engaging in their
children’s education. One of the key messages these
parents learnt about was the importance of reading at
home. Children learn about the value and importance
of reading as they watch their family read and write in
everyday life. Here are a few simple things you can do
at home to make reading fun.

Listen to your child read every day, even if only
for a short time.

Discuss the meanings of stories and words.

Talk about books together and make reading a
shared, enjoyable activity.

See that there is a range of reading material, both
fiction and non-fiction, for your child at home.

Try not to let television intrude on reading time –
set aside some uninterrupted time to read with
your child.
Information about NAPLAN went home last week
for students in Years 3 and 5. Some students may
be entitled to additional support during this time. If
you would like more information about support
entitlements or the testing schedule please do not
hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.
In staffing news Miss Nguyen will be finishing her
role as a support teacher at Cabramatta Public
School at the end of this term. I would like to thank
Miss Nguyen for her contributions to the education
of our students and wish her well in her future
endeavours.
The Easter holidays are almost here. This term has
been an extremely busy one with so many quality
educational experiences available for our students.
A reminder that staff will be participating in
professional learning activities on Monday 20th
April. Children will return to school on Tuesday 21st
April.
Finally I would like to wish all families a safe and
happy holiday. I hope that you get the opportunity
to spend some quality time with your children
during the school break.

Stage Three Gender Equity Day Report
On Tuesday 24th March, students in Years Five
and Six participated in a variety of lessons
which addressed important areas of learning
such as: puberty, peer group pressure,
conflict resolution, body image, personal
safety, bullying and gender stereotypes. Stage
Three teachers presented lessons to students
based on their gender so that the boys and
girls would feel more comfortable to
participate and learn.
Constable Noel Rayner, Mrs Long and Mrs
Nguyen (Multicultural Community Liaison
Constable Noel Raynor holding Constable
Charlie (above)
they felt more comfortable addressing these
issues.
Officers) from Cabramatta Police came out to
our school and presented a cyber-safety and
cyber-bullying lesson to the boys and then
followed up with a session addressing the
girls.
The students experienced a routine similar to
high school students, whereby they rotated
every 50 minutes and were taught by
different teachers throughout the day. All
students completed an evaluation of the day.
The feedback from both girls and boys was
very positive. They acknowledged that they
had learnt some very essential information
and more importantly, key skills to cope with
different experiences that may occur during a
young person’s life. The boys and girls also
unanimously agreed that it was much better
having the groups based on gender because
I would like to thank all Stage Three teachers
and students for their commitment to the
day. It was a very worthwhile experience for
all involved.

and two high schools participated in the program.
The day began with an individual Mathematics

solutions.
The day was a huge success and provided our
