Window Treatment Career Professional
Course Guide
1
The Custom Home Furnishings Academy offers three courses as the core of the home study program.
By viewing webinar and video lessons online, fabricating instructor-guided sample projects, and participating
in a private forum with fellow students and instructors, students learn the basics of operating a professional drapery workroom and earn the Career Professional™ designation for Window Treatment Fabrication.
HS
Students begin training the day they enroll, with online access to view lessons and post discussion
questions any time day or night. In addition, each student receives training materials that include
course handbooks, miscellaneous workroom supplies and a few helpful tools to complete required
projects.
The flexible approach allows students to learn at their own pace without leaving their home or workroom. Completion time varies based on skill level, experience, and effort. Students committing ten
hours per week, generally complete the Window Treatment Fabrication Career Professional™ program
in 8-12 weeks. However, all students have access to the lessons and online support for twelve months to
complete the program. After twelve months, a $50 reactivation fee applies. At any time within one year, there is
NO FEE to transfer to the same hands-on course at the CHF Academy. Home study participants must be current
Drapery & Design Professional Network Members (Premium Level) to enroll.

The swag pattern is an engineering work of art,
but it is often the most intimidating element of
a window treatment design. Referencing Ann
K. Johnson’s books The Professional Workroom
Handbook of Swags, Volumes 1 & 2, the course
begins with the analytical discussion of the six
basic swag styles. For each variation, students
calculate dimensions, draft patterns and drape
them on to vertical pinning surfaces. With guided
support, students build general patterning skills
and learn to troubleshoot swag challenges. In
addition students learn to design and draft patterns for asymmetrical swags. As a result of this
course, each student returns to their workroom
with numerous self-drafted swag patterns and
the critical skills and confidence to tackle swags
of any shape or size.

Traveling Workshops
The Custom Home Furnishings Academy offers a variety of courses
as traveling workshops for small groups or organizations. Select from the list
below, or call for customized program options.
Step 1: Choose one of the following two-day workshops
WT321-Ultimate Sample Kit (p.3)
WT601A-Advanced Workroom Skills and Efficiency Part I (p.4)
WT601B-Advanced Workroom Skills and Efficiency Part II (p.4)
WT611-Advanced Swag Engineering (p.4)
WT621-Old World Patterning Techniques (p.4)
WT641-Ripplefold and Panel Track Workshop (p.4)
BU201-Business Plan Workshop (p.5)
BU301-Pricing Without Emotion (p.5)
BU401-Designer-Workroom Relations (p.7)
ID401-Professional Window Treatment Consultant (p.10)
Step 2: Coordinate date, location, lunches and instructor lodging
The group is responsible for naming a coordinator, choosing the dates of the workshop and securing a suitable location. The coordinator is responsible for providing lodging for the instructor and
purchasing lunch and refreshments for attendees and instructor on workshop days. The coordinator receives 30% off tuition. If seven or more registrations are confirmed, coordinator receives 50%
off tuition. Instructor travel and teaching fees are paid by CHF Academy. In addition, the CHF
Academy will reimburse coordinator up to $14 per attendee, per day for lunch and refreshments
(receipts required). Instructor lodging costs can be divided among attendees and added to registration fee.
Step 3: Register 6-12 attendees
CHF Academy will provide registration forms and an online registration link to promote attendance.
A minimum of six paid registrations are required five weeks prior to scheduled workshop. Events
can be kept private or the coordinator can elect to have the workshop publicized through the CHF
Academy and the Drapery & Design Professional Network.
Step 4: Consider adding a third day of hands-on education
WT121-Working with Sheer Fabric (p.3)
WT311-Fabric Embellishment Workshop (p.3)
Private Training
Create a training program specific to your business needs. Use the workroom facilities of the CHF Academy,
or invite a CHF Instructor to your business location. Examples of private training topics include workroom skills
and efficiency, employee training, product development, pattern drafting and business consulting. Private training fees start at $500 per day and vary depending on nature of training, size of group, and training location.
