ISSUE # 001 MAY, 2015 The Central Australian Drag Racing Association received over $300,000 in funding from the Northern Territory Government last year to assist with major capital works at the Alice Springs Inland Dragway. Along with some minor improvements, we have now extended the safety wall to the full quarter mile and installed LED lighting from the staging area to the braking area. We are extremely proud and excited to be the first drag strip in Australia to install LED's. The new lights have been tested at our previous two meetings to ensure any problems are ironed out prior to the NT Chief Minister Adam Giles MLA, officially turning them on at our May 17th meeting. The Northern Territory Government has recently announced their 2015 Budget and CADRA have been included again to receive a further $1.1 million. This will enable us to bring the Alice Springs Inland Dragway up to international standard with such improvements as resurfacing of the staging areas, construction of a scrutineering shed and more shaded spectator structures. This means we'll be running Top Alcohol and Nitro vehicles side by side and giving the competitors and spectators a better deal, rather than solo passes. Entries for the Desert Nationals are now coming in and preparation by the sub-committee is well underway. The next event to follow will be the all-new and exciting inaugural Red Centre NATS. In readiness for this, extensions to the Hardass Burnout Pad have commenced and will be completed in August. The pad will eventually be extended into part of the spectator mound with new fencing which will be collapsible for normal race meetings. As some of you may already be aware, the Red CentreNATS will consist of events such as flag grabbing races, grass racing, cruising, a show 'n' shine, burnout competitions and drag racing. As there will be quite a few events hosted by CADRA, we will need volunteers to assist with our merchandise, food and drink stalls and bar. We will also need to fill official positions such as burnout marshalls, judges, safety crews, recovery crews and scrutineers as well as drag racing officials and marshalls. If anyone is interested in being a volunteer in any of the abovementioned areas, please contact the CADRA Event Co-Ordinator Russell Naismith, on 0411 810 081 as soon as possible to complete a registration form. Working Bees will be held every Sunday from 8.00am until further notice. Over the past few months we have seen the same five or six Committee faces every Sunday. At the end of the day, we all want to go racing but if the jobs aren't done, there won't be anyone left to race with. The jobs aren't hard and any help you give will enable the club to progress.
