In 2014, the Boutique at the Rink donated $246,000 to
support the Cancer Support Community, St. Luke’s
Cancer Center and St. Luke’s Hospice.
Proceeds assisted the Cancer Support Community
in providing free programs of support, education and
stress reduction to anyone affected by cancer. CSC
provides a home-like setting for people fighting cancer
to connect with and learn from each other, while regaining control, reducing isolation and restoring hope.
St. Luke’s Cancer Center purchased new technology
called Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT) for earlystage breast cancer. With IORT, radiation oncologists
can deliver a similar dose of radiation in a single
treatment session, while also preserving more healthy
tissue. This helps to reduce side effects and the time
spent going back and forth to the hospital for radiation
treatments.
Support from the Boutique also helped St. Luke’s
Hospice to meet the end-of-life needs and concerns
of patients and families in our community. Hospice care
helps patients live as comfortably as possible in their
own homes or at the St. Luke’s Hospice House, the
only free-standing inpatient hospice house within
40 miles of the Lehigh Valley.
