Canmore Golf Academy

Canmore Golf Academy
Looking for a more intensive program for your junior golfers? New for 2015, we are excited to launch
our new GOLF NINJA Programs.
Aimed at ages 8 and up, the GOLF NINJA Programs focus on fun, teamwork and fair play while
emphasizing safety, course care and etiquette. Coaching and instruction will focus on whole-game
development in accordance with Golf Canada’s “Long Term Player Development Guide” (LTPD). A
cooperative effort between Golf Canada and the PGA of Canada, our nation’s LTPD is an internationally
recognized document that provides a roadmap for lifelong development and participation in golf.
NINJAS 1: Preparing to Play
Goals: Build on existing skills, aiming to develop confidence, responsibility and independence on the
course.
NINJAS 2: Preparing to Compete
Goals: NINJAS 2 shares the same goals as NINJAS 1, with greater emphasis placed on preparing to
compete in tournaments. While some participants might have previous competitive experience, this is
not mandatory. Participants are expected to bring a strong desire to learn, improve and take their
games to the next level. It is expected that NINJAS 2 participants will identify at least 2 tournaments that
they wish to compete in during the 2015 season.

The NINJA Pledge
The Ninja Pledge is a set of guiding principles meant to guide your journey as a GOLF NINJA.
Please read it, understand it and live it! Once a GOLF NINJA, always a GOLF NINJA.
“We are guardians of the fairways and greens. We are defenders of fair play. We are seekers of
knowledge and skill. We are leaders in perseverance and tenacity. We are protectors of honor
and integrity, both on and off the course.”
Guardians of the fairways and greens don’t litter. They repair their ball marks on the greens and
replace their divots. They rake their footprints in the bunkers. They value and respect nature
and understand that it is a privilege to enjoy such beautiful surroundings. The true GOLF NINJA
leaves the course in better condition than they found it.
Defenders of fair play strive to learn the rules of the game so that everyone can play on equal
footing. They understand that victory by unfair means is empty.
Seekers of knowledge and skill are unafraid to ask questions and think critically to find solutions
to problems.
Leaders in perseverance and tenacity always try their best.
Protectors of honor and integrity always try to do the right thing. They show respect for their
fellow NINJA, their equipment, their coaches, parents, club staff and the golf facilities.
Such is the path of the GOLF NINJA. Do you choose to follow it?
Dear Canmore G&CC Members & Parents,
With this letter, we are seeking the assistance of adult members would like to take on some important
support roles in this season’s junior golf program.
This year, we are introducing “Golf Ninja’s”- more advanced programming for those juniors who are
interested in playing at higher levels and possibly competing in tournament play. This full season
program will feature a twice-weekly “open practice” environment where participants arrive when they
can and stay as long as they like. Practice hours will be Mondays and Thursdays from 430pm to 830pm
(Monday practices will begin at 630pm until June 15th - see attached program schedule).
Various skill challenges and activity stations will be set up for each practice session; participants will be
required to demonstrate proof of completing a specified number of these challenges & activities in each
session. They will also be required to book a one-on-one lesson (with PGA Professional) at least once
every two weeks to review their individualized training plan and update progress reports.
2 to 4 volunteers are needed for each practice session, to supervise skills challenges, verify participant
activity logs and ensure the safety of all involved. Another important role involves accompanying kids on
the course to provide guidance and mentorship in the areas of course care, etiquette and general
decorum while using the golfing facilities. NOTE it is not necessary to be a “great” golfer to join in this
role. Rather, you need a decent understanding of the rules, a good handle on playing etiquette and
plenty of energy & enthusiasm. Practice supervisors and on-course mentors will be needed on Mondays
and Thursdays between 430pm and 830pm. Additional assistance may be required for tournament
related travel and interclub events. On-course mentoring times might expand as the season progresses.
If you would like to help guide the journey of a future club champion, please let me know. I can be
reached via the contact info below.
With thanks,
Bill Dreger
