Introduction
Welcome to the first issue of Cannon Living e-magazine –
a space where your every desire for innovation meets our
world of design and efficiency.
AUTUMN
TRENDS
Explore the power of simplicity this season
and follow our guidelines below to create your
own elegant haven.
Raw finishes are a great base to start
with. If you’re able, consider untreated
floorboards or raw concrete underfoot.
For a simpler solution, add stoneware
tiles around the fireplace or lightweight
concrete panels to a feature wall.
Stoneware is an affordable addition
to your living space, adding a modern
sophistication to any coffee table or
shelving system. Zen-like vases or bowls
can be found easily in both new and
vintage shops.
A focus on textures will ensure your
monochrome palette won’t be too
stark as you move into winter. Textural
additions can be as simple as cashmere
throws or cable-knit cushions, or, for
an indulgent textural centrepiece, seek
out contemporary, abstract rugs in flat
weave or shag.
Incorporate these simple, versatile
additions into your living space and
watch it transform into a modern
retreat with elegant comfort and
longevity.

Cannon Living — Trends
Look for furniture and homewares that
incorporate untreated wood or leather
for an organic, calming quality. It can be
as simple as finding a singular statement
piece such as these mid-century
reading chairs.
Included in this colourway are rich
metallics, for easy elegance. Steer
towards gold and bronze, rather than
silver, and once again look for smaller
details such as trims on furniture or
golden accessories for a shimmering
yet understated solution.
5.
4.
Another effective raw finish is
environmentally friendly lime paint. Made
with clay and mineral pigments they
produce a soft, weathered look. Choose
neutral hues in slate or porcelain for
natural elegance.
Don’t be afraid of colour this season!
Now you have your neutral backdrop,
add some flourishes to your homewares
with burnt tones such as terracotta,
amber and honey.
COSY
MOMENTS
Winter may not be your favourite
time of year, but it’s the perfect
season for drawing on your internal
resources and letting your inner
creative spirit run wild. Plan some
parties, get interior decorating,
engross yourself in the odd DIY
project, and the cooler months
will be over before you know it.
Here are some hot ideas to get
you started.

HOST AN
INDOOR PICNIC
When winter stops your social life in its tracks
it’s time to host an indoor picnic. You can share
precious times with family or friends without the
need to leave the comfort of your own home.
8.
9.
Your indoor picnic can be as quick and easy or
as elaborate as you choose. Either way, as you
can see, there is ample scope to reconnect with
your creative style.
BUILD A CUBBY
Make your own grown up cubby
house by decking an A-Frame tent
with fairy lights. It’s simple to fold up
and stow away, and can be later used
in your courtyard as a shady,
summertime retreat.
KEEP IT LOW
Transform your coffee table into a dining
space. Carry the lowered proportions
through with small glass tumblers and
shallow bowls and platters.
FLOOR SEATING
Just like a Moroccan palace, pile pillows
around the table, layer rugs and plump
throws over one another and sink into
your sumptuous picnic set-up.
THINK CONTRASTS
Bring a suggestion of the outdoors
into your living room by using natural
materials, fibres and textures. Contrast
faux fur blankets against polished
floorboards and place bright, brassy
serving bowls atop rustic tabletops.

SET THE SCENE
Your inbuilt or freestanding Cannon
Heater makes the perfect backdrop.
Enjoy a picnic setting in front of a
panoramic view and the mesmerising
glow of realistic eucalypt-look logs
(without the mess of a real log fire).
REMEMBER, YOUR PICNIC DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A
BANQUET. IT COULD BE A SWEET DESSERT PICNIC,
CHEESE PLATE TASTING OR JUST THE ULTIMATE
HOT CHOCOLATE BREAK BEFORE BED.

Cristian Cubiñá has developed a
transparent borosilicate glass in
an innovative drop form which has
given this luminaire a totally new
interpretation and attracted the
attention of industry professionals
during the last Light + Building fair
in Frankfurt.
Add colour with the Cindy lamp, a
1970s-inspired gem with a conical
lampshade above a teardrop-shaped
base. The chrome-like finish provides
a contemporary twist and is available
in a variety of matte metallic tones:
platinum, dark gold, mint green, orange,
blue, pink, gun metal and violet.
The Kooper Floor lamp, inspired by
Josh & Jenna of ‘The Block’, is a sleek
piece that imparts a softer up light
thanks to a prismatic diffuser within
a copper shade. The chalk matte base
finishes off the overall contemporary
aesthetic of this piece.

37 glasses starting from $1,915

Fato lamp is a design classic and
so much more than a source of
illumination; it’s also a lighting
sculpture. Embodying the geometric
style aesthetic of the 1960s, this
structure in white enamelled, folded
and welded plate incorporates both
metal screens and sections of empty
space to craft pockets of light and
shade. Use as a table or wall lamp.

OLDER STYLE HOMES
If your fireplace opening is too large
you can use a decorative 3 or 4-sided
surround to fill the gaps. Note, however,
that inbuilt heaters should always be
flued properly for safety reasons.
The sleek design of the Fitzroy Profile
Powerflue suits contemporary interior
designs while the curved Canterbury
Classic Powerflue fascia complements
traditional décor.
Installation options are equally flexible;
heaters can be flued out the back,
vertically through roofs, or down under
floors. Heaters may be fixed into mock
fireplaces or, with the use of a console
kit, placed along an existing wall. Those
wishing to site a heater flush against
an interior wall can even protect the
outside portion of the unit with a
weatherproof box.
Above all, Powerflue heaters are
exceptionally clean, energy efficient
and safe. Air is drawn from outside for
combustion. The combustion products
are expelled right outside without risk
of them returning into a room.
GREAT OPEN SPACES
Owners of second or third-floor
apartments will rejoice to learn that
their homes can readily become just that
little bit toastier.
You love your large family room or
converted warehouse apartment, and
cherish your polished boards. Luckily,
Cannon Gas Log Heaters can sit on any
floor surface without the need for a
heat shield.
Fitzroy Profile and Canterbury Classic
Powerflue heaters can be flued up
through an internal wall or out under
the floor, and vented either vertically or
horizontally as required. What’s more,
the heaters are not only flued out the
back, but also come supplied with the
necessary flue and cowl.
If a pot belly stove isn’t quite your
style and space is at a premium consider
the compact Canterbury Classic
Freestanding. Alternatively, for a larger,
sleeker unit, consider teaming a Fitzroy
Profile Inbuilt with a Fitzroy
Freestanding kit.
With clean-lines, realistic eucalypt-look logs,
double glazed glass and enhanced flame-effect,
our heaters are as at home in traditional or
eclectic spaces as they are in luxur y or
contemporar y interiors.

The Fitzroy Profile Inbuilt fits neatly into
existing gas or oil space heater cavities.
The Canterbury Classic Inbuilt is ideal
for shallow recesses and has a depth
requirement of only 363mm. Using a
50mm spacer kit reduces this to a depth
of just 313mm.
Powerflue heaters are the best
option for new, five-star, energy
efficient dwellings.

RANGE
The Canterbury Range
Cannon has released an alluring new collection of
Heaters for 2015 to create the perfect focal point
for family and friends to gather around and share
a lifetime of cosy moments.
Rapid warmth, the enchantment and
romance of a real log fire minus the
mess, simple operation and high-energy
efficiency and heat output, are some
of the other attractions. Designed and
manufactured in Australia to suit local
conditions, there is a Cannon Gas Log
Heater solution to suit differing home
styles - contemporary or classic. It’s
the remarkably flexible flue system that
means there’s a Cannon Gas Log Heater
installation option for almost every
possible installation scenario.
2. Installation: would you like a
standalone freestanding gas log heater
as a feature element in a room or
would you prefer an integrated inbuilt
model set into an existing heating
cavity, a newly created mock fireplace,
or within joinery?
Cannon has created two different
ranges: the elegantly curved Canterbury
Classic range and the more streamlined
Fitzroy Profile range. The following
checklist will assist in selecting the ideal
Cannon Gas Log Heater solution for
your needs.

17.
16.
The thought of winter in front of a
Cannon Gas Log Heater instantly evokes
images of delightful hot chocolate with
marshmallows, cuddles and chats.
3. Flue type: do you need a standard
flue or super energy efficient Powerflue
which draws air from outside for
combustion and then vents outside via
a secondary flue?
4. Gas source: do you have access to
Natural Gas or do you need an LP
Gas model?
5. Room size: check your room
dimensions. Cannon Gas Log Heaters
have a generous heating capacity suited
to spaces of up to 80m 2.
6. Energy efficiency requirements:
The 5.5 star energy rated Fitzroy
Profile Powerflue and Canterbury
Classic Powerflue Gas Log Heaters
are suited for use in 5-star energy

Freestanding or Inbuilt unit. The Freestanding model can be
powered by either LP or Natural Gas, both of which have a
standard flue, an enhanced flame, double glass front and black
finish. There are six possible variations in the Canterbur y Classic
Inbuilt range with options comprising: a standard flue with black
finish powered by either LP or Natural Gas; or the Powerflue with
either black or Platinum metallic finish and powered by either LP

Energy ratings
—
WHAT THEY MEAN
FOR YOU
New gas appliances such as Cannon Log
Heaters display an energy rating label
which shows how efficient the appliance
is and how much gas it uses per year.
The labels show a rating from 1 to 6
stars. The higher the number of stars,
the more efficient the appliance and the
less it will cost you in energy bills.
The Fitzroy Profile range offers an
excellent 5.5 star rating for the Fitzroy
Powerflue and a reliable 3.6 star rating
for the Fitzroy Inbuilt.
The Canterbury Classic range starts
with a 3.1 star rating for the Classic
Inbuilt and moves on to a 4 star rating
for the Freestanding and an efficient
5.5 stars for the Powerflue option.
With all Cannon Gas Log Heaters,
every attention is given to pursuing
superb design, high heat output, safety,
performance and reliability.
If you’d like more information on just
how these ratings transpire into savings
for your home and the environment
visit the Your Energy Savings website.
There’s also a great information
section which outlines the types of
home energy incentives that you may
be eligible for if purchasing a Cannon
heater depending on which State you
reside in.

POWERFLUE GAS HEATER
By choosing gas heating you’ve already
made the first step for a greener
home. Gas heaters are less expensive
to run than solar or electricity, and
produce about a third of the amount of
greenhouse gases.

22.
FITZROY PROFILE
When selecting your
gas heater, it’s wise
to consider not only
the style of the model
that best suits your
home, but also the
energy efficiency and
what it means for your
household bills and
more importantly
the environment.

here is your favourite place in Geelong to hang
W
out and why?
How would you describe your work and style?
I hope that my style comes across as being playful,
cheeky and fun! My core customers would have to
be the people that come in to the cafe each day. I
would say ages range from 20-60, it's quite broad
and those who don't have a huge budget. Those with
the bigger budgets come my way too but I'm happy
to cater for all as I understand sometimes people
just want to give a token gift.

I'll be honest, it would have to be my work place!
My little shop is positioned in a cafe in Geelong
(King of the Castle, 24 Pakington Street, Geelong
West). The crew that work here are really upbeat
and positive, so we've created a cool little hub. A
lot of other local creatives hang out here too so it's
great being able to catch up with them while I work.
And there is always something different going on,
twilight movies, markets, events... It's a fun place to
be a part of.

hat do you think is most important in creating a
W
home/space?
25.
24.
I had a quarter life crisis on my 25th birthday and
decided to explore the floristry industry after
working in the events/PR industry in Melbourne for
4 years. I’d had enough of being chained to a desk
and really wanted to get into a creative industry
where I could get my hands dirty. I studied for 12
months to become qualified and then worked in
a florist for 18 months before venturing out on
my own. I found some florists were taking things
so seriously and I really wanted to have fun with
flowers.
I usually start the day by looking at what orders
I have to do and then prioritise my day. I like to
get the emails out of the way first and then clear
my head so I can then get on with the creative
goodness. When thinking about the arrangements
I'm making, I think about the budget the customer
has given me, size of the arrangement, proportions,
colours... then away I go! I'm very picky about
what colours I put together. There are so many
shades and tones of each colour and they all have
a place. I will only mix a raspberry red with pinks,
I hate yellow and purple together and red and
white makes me cringe (unless it's Christmas, but
even then it's hard!) so where I can, I steer my
customers in certain directions.
