GAUGE:
One small square = 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. (9 x 9 cm).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the
size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you
fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if
more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
FPDC (front post double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from front to back then to front, going
around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.
Skip st behind the FPDC.
FPDC3tog (front post double decrease - worked over 2 post sts and one sc3tog)
Step 1: Yarn over, insert hook from front to back then to front, going around post of
next st 2 rows below, draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2
loops rem on hook).
Step 2: Yarn over insert hook in next sc3tog (of current row) and draw up a loop, yarn
over and draw through 2 loops on hook (3 loops rem on hook).
Step 3: Yarn over, insert hook from front to back then to front, going around post of
next st 2 rows below, draw up a loop.
Step 4: Yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through all 4
loops on hook - 2 sts decreased. Skip the sts behind the FPDC3tog (the st before the
sc3tog and after the sc3tog).
sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw
through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.
sc3tog (sc 3 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) 3 times, yarn and draw
through all 4 loops on hook - 2 sts decreased.
NOTES:
1. Blanket is made of 56 Small Squares and 6 Large Squares. Stitches of each Square are decreased
until no stitches remain.
2. Post sts are worked around sts 2 rows below. For example, when working Row 7, the sts 2 rows
below would be the sts of Row 5.
3. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw
through all loops on hook to complete the st.
