Executive Director Job Description Position Summary Capitol Hill Village (CHV) is seeking a community-minded and service-oriented leader to be its next Executive Director. Reporting to and working in close collaboration with a highly-engaged Board, talented staff, and more than 300 dedicated volunteers, the Executive Director will be responsible for the organization’s overall management, strategic planning, growth, long-term sustainability, partnership building, and external relations. He or she must demonstrate a genuine commitment to and passion for CHV's mission of helping Capitol Hill residents live fully and comfortably in their own homes and community throughout their lives. The top candidate will bring a strong record of experience as a senior leader of a community- or membership-based nonprofit organization in addition to experience designing and implementing high-impact programs and services. The ideal candidate also will bring an entrepreneurial mindset, a proven ability to build relationships with diverse audiences, and an understanding of best practices in nonprofit management. Responsibilities CHV is a small yet high-growth nonprofit, and the Executive Director’s responsibilities will expand and change as the organization grows. Initial core responsibilities will include: Organization and Fiscal Management: Oversee the day-to-day management of the organization’s paid staff of four, volunteers, finances, operations, legal compliance, and relationships with the members, Board, community partners, funders, vendors, and other key stakeholders. Strategic Visioning and Planning: Collaborate with the CHV Board, staff, members, and other stakeholders to develop a strategic vision for the organization’s future; listen to and learn from the community; facilitate an inclusive process that allows all ideas to be heard and evaluated; develop a clear and detailed strategic plan with key outcomes, timelines, responsibilities, and metrics. Program Design, Management and Measurement: Implement the strategic plan and ensure that all programs and services are aligned with CHV’s mission and values, the membership’s needs, and a sound business model. Partner Engagement: Cultivate relationships with existing partners, including government agencies, private companies, and vendors, to promote the organization and foster strong collaboration. Advocacy and External Relations: As the primary spokesperson, respond to media inquiries and proactively seek opportunities to increase awareness of CHV’s brand, programs, and services. Revenue Generation and Fundraising: The ED will be responsible for raising funds to sustain programs. This includes membership fees, philanthropic and government grants, support from individuals and foundations, corporate partnerships and new sources of revenues. Qualifications: A genuine, demonstrated passion for and commitment to serving others. A collaborative and inclusive approach to decision-making and a “listen-to-learn” leadership style. The ability to energize and motivate others. A demonstrated record of achievement as a nonprofit executive or senior leader with proven success managing staff, volunteers, programs, finances, and Board relationships. Experience generating revenue through earned income, grants, corporate partnerships, and individual donor cultivation. A proven ability to develop and operationalize a strategic plan that incorporates diverse perspectives of various stakeholders. Experience managing volunteers and an appreciation for their essential role in a community-based organization. A personal or professional commitment to the goal of aging in place is preferred.
