GUIDELINES
DOG SHOW GUIDELINES
Our goal at the Chattanooga Choo Choo is to provide a pleasant place for all guests. We want to
be successful at hosting your dog show so that we can continue to hold similar events in the future. Please help us by following the guidelines listed below. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions please contact a member of our management team. We hope you enjoy
your stay with us and we look forward to serving you!
There will be a maximum of six (6) dogs allowed per room.
The guest will be charged a one-time non-refundable dog fee of $50.00 per stay. This fee applies
to all guests. Fee is fixed and will not change whether guest stays one night or five nights.
Dogs left unattended in guestrooms must be crated. Plastic sheeting must be placed under each
crate.
Housekeeping must be allowed to clean a guestroom at least every two days. Please hang ‘Do
Not Disturb’ sign on door if you do not want housekeeping service that day. Housekeeper will
leave fresh towels on days no service was provided.
Owners/exhibitors should bring their own towels for bathing dogs. A daily inventory for missing
or damaged towels will be taken. Any necessary charges will be applied to the guest’s bill.
Individual guests will be responsible for any damage to a guestroom or any hotel property. This
includes, but is not limited to, replacement cost for carpeting if odors or stains cannot be removed with traditional cleaning methods. Bedspreads will be removed prior to guests checking
into rooms. If there are no dogs in room, the bedspreads will be returned to guestroom.
Dogs are to be leashed at all times when out of the guestroom.
Dogs will not be allowed in the following public areas: restaurants, lounge, public function space
and the respective hallways to the areas listed. Exceptions will be made when functions call for
the dogs to be in these areas.
Extension cords are not allowed to be plugged in to rooms from a vehicle, trailer or camper in
the parking lot.
If the hotel receives excessive barking complaints from a guestroom, guests will be asked to
check out immediately.
The hotel and a member of the show committee will investigate any problem areas that are outlined in this agreement. Any guest not adhering to this agreement will be asked to check out of
the hotel without refund.
Please check the National Specialty website for latest updates and changes http://cardigancorgis.com/ns2015
NOTICE TO DOG OWNERS, EXHBITORS AND HANDLERS
GENERAL
RULES
EXHIBITORS, PLEASE
KEEP YOUR ROOMS
AND YOUR
GROOMING AREA
CLEAN AND PICK UP
AFTER YOUR DOGS IN
ORDER TO ASSURE
THE FUTURE USE OF
OUR HOST
FACILITIES.
When you or your agent sign the entry form, you automatically agree to the following terms concerning your stay in
any hotel or motel during the duration of our Specialty. Exhibitors with recreational vehicles should follow the rules
as applicable. These rules have been established for the good of all exhibitors and to help maintain good
relationships between the dog show community and hotels/motels.
1. Plastic sheeting must be placed under every crate in a hotel/motel room. This will keep carpets clean and dry. It
is the responsibility of each exhibitor to provide their own plastic sheeting.
2. Dogs must be crated when owner is out of the room. NO EXCEPTIONS!
3. Dogs must be kept on leash at all times while in the hotel/motel , lobbies or on the hotel/motel grounds with
the exception of dogs in exercise pens or performance dogs practicing, warming up or trialing.
4. Under no circumstances can adhesive tape, tacks or any kind of sticky adhesives be used on the guest room
doors.
5. No grooming or bathing of dogs in any guestroom. Bathing may only be done in the designated bathing area.
Exhibitors must supply own shampoo and towels. Hotel/motel towels may not be used for bathing dogs.
6. The hotel/motel management may choose to remove all bedspreads from guestrooms occupied with dogs.
Guests should provide sheets or covers for all beds and sofas or chairs in their rooms to avoid significant dog
hair accumulation on the furniture.
7. Hotel/motel guests are requested to voluntarily report damages when and if they occur. Rooms will be
inspected daily by members of the hotel/motel staff & observed violations or damages will be reported to the
hotel/motel management and/or the Specialty Investigative Committee.
8. Dogs should only be “exercised” in designated areas on motel premises. Every dog owner is expected to pick up
after their own dog(s) & dispose of waste in designated trash cans. Failure to do so should be reported to the
Specialty Investigative Committee. Observe “no dogs” posted areas. It is the responsibility of the dog owner/
agent to find out from the hotel’s staff where these areas and cans are located if not clearly marked. Do not
allow your dog to urinate or defecate on the hotel/motel buildings, or on the landscaped areas of the hotel.
9. Due to health regulations and the presence of non-dog owning guests at the host hotel, dogs are not allowed
near food service areas or any area posted as prohibited. No dogs are allowed in the restaurant, lounge, pool
or pool area, fitness center, meeting rooms (without club approval) or public restrooms.
10. Do not let your dog become a nuisance to your neighbor. There will be non-dog guests at the hotel. Excessive
barking will be reported to the Specialty Investigative Committee and repeat violators may be asked to leave.
11. RV parking will be in an area designated by the hotel. RV parking at the specialty host hotel/motel is by prior
reservation only. The specialty host hotel/motel will provide each RV staying on site with a Parking Permit.
12. RV’s are expected to keep their parking area neat and clean at all times.
13. Each dog owner/agent/RVer/guest is expected to cooperate with the hotel/motel and/or Specialty
Investigative Committee.
14. Dog owners/agents/room registrants will be financially responsible for damage to hotel/motel rooms caused
by their dog(s) or themselves. This includes, but not limited to replacement cost for carpeting if odors or stains
cannot be removed by traditional cleaning methods.
15. Dog owners/ agents/room registrants/RVers are expected to settle damage claims on the spot, or else must be
willing to furnish information, such as insurance policy numbers & other pertinent information as required/
requested.
16. Any guest found not to be following the above rules may be asked to leave the hotel/motel without a refund.
Should a hotel/ motel, for cause, deem it necessary to cancel room privileges, the registrant agrees to forego
legal actions against the CWCCA & the hotel/motel.
17. Exhibitors understand and agree that violations may be referred to the Event Committee if written charges are
preferred. If such charges are upheld by the Event Committee, it may lead to suspension from future show
privileges.
18. Hotels/motels have the right to charge a deposit (refundable or nonrefundable). The Specialty Investigative
Committee, working in a fair and impartial manner, is charged with investigating complaints and will work
closely with the Host hotel/motel Staff and Event Committee to enforce the above rules. Prompt and decisive
action will be taken in the case of rule violations. Depending on the severity of misconduct, disciplinary actions
may include charges against CWCCA members filed with the CWCCA Board of Directors or charges under
American Kennel Club rules, which would be handled by the Event Committee acting as a Trial Board under the
authority of the AKC.
19. The Host hotel/motel and Event Committee reserve the privilege of enacting additional rules as situations
require.
Please check the National Specialty website for latest updates and changes http://cardigancorgis.com/ns2015

THE MEGAN
The 22nd Annual Megan Competition (Formal Attire Requested) will be held Wednesday May 13, 2015 at the
Chattanooga Choo Choo, Chattanooga Tennessee . Our thanks to Megan Chair, Cindy Bossi for making this
year’s Competition one to remember!!!!
Judges for the 2015 Megan are Marla Gardner, Vivian Moran & Joann Pape
Formal Attire
Tails by
Cardigans
The Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America, Inc dedicates the Megan Competition to the memory of Roberta
Holden Bole, who brought the first Cardigans to this country in 1931. She was the guiding force behind the
formation of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America in 1935. She organized many of the early Cardigan
supported shows and Specialties. In all, Mrs. Bole imported more than 20 Cardigans. Some died in transit. Others
she was never able to register. Nevertheless, through her continuing efforts, she was able to launch the breed in
this country for all of us to enjoy.
Advancing from the Preliminary or Intermediate Rounds is often referred to 'making the cut', and carries a great
deal of prestige in being recognized among the pinnacles of Cardigan breed development. In that light, the Megan
is traditionally considered a formal attire event. This competition is open to all Cardigan Welsh Corgis world wide
that have completed the requirements for a conformation championship. AKC approval of this event is not
required as this competition is considered a Fun Match, therefore non-pointed.
The AKC does require that entries in this competition be restricted to dogs owned or co-owned by members of the
CWCCA. Spayed or neutered champions, regardless of age, are eligible for this competition.
The CWCCA requires that persons living in the same household, co-owning or co-breeding with any of the Megan
judging panel cannot exhibit in that years Megan.
Through the generosity of the members and friends of the CWCCA, this competition offers the following awards:
• Best & Runner–Up in each of the eight classes divided by sex & color receive a rosette.
• Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi – the Megan Award & Megan Medallion
• Breeder of the Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi – the Hanging Rock Award & Megan Medallion.
This is automatically given to the breeder of the dog winning the Megan Competition
• Runner-Up to Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi – the Cadno Award & Megan Medallion
• Best of Opposite Sex to Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi – the Cassie Award & Megan Medallion
The Megan Medallion bears a likeness of the first American Champion Cardigan, MEGAN.
Three judges and two alternates for this competition are selected by the CWCCA membership and may only judge
the Megan once in a (5) year period and must have a minimum of ten (10) years experience in the breed.
Below is a synopsis of the competition procedures. The official rules are published in the Premium List.
There are eight (8) classes divided by sex and color in the Preliminary and Intermediate Rounds of competition. The
Final Round is a single class consisting of the Bests from the Intermediate Round. The color divisions are Red/Sable,
Brindle, Black and Blue Merle.
Preliminary Round: Each of two judges will examine each entry individually on the table and then both judges
will stand together while each entry is moved. When preliminary judging of the entire class is completed, each
judge submits at least one but not more than four (1-4) entries that they wish to pass on to the Intermediate
Round of competition. This selection process will result in a minimum of one (1) and a maximum of eight (8) entries
advancing to the Intermediate Round from a class.
Intermediate Round: Judging is similar to the Preliminary Round except the Judges are rotated. Best and RunnerUp in each class are selected with the Best moving on to the Final Round of competition.
Final Round: The eight (8) class winners are judged together in the ring for the title Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi.
When the Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi is selected, the Runner-Up from the class of the Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi
from the Intermediate Round enters the ring to compete for Runner-Up to Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi and/or Best
Opposite Sex to the Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi.

The first dog handling competition for youth at a formal dog show was held in 1932 at the Westbury Kennel Club
Show in Long Island, New York, in the United States.
In 1933 the Westminster Kennel Club in New York offered a children's handling class, and prizes were established in
the names of early promoters of children's events, Leonard Brumby, Sr, and George F. Foley.
The American Kennel Club recognized Junior Showmanship as a dog show class in 1971.

HERDING
Monday
May 11th
Herding
Please join us at our 2015 National Specialty Cardigan-only Herding Trials, where our wonderful
Cardigans will compete at what they were bred to do. On MONDAY, May 11, 2015 we will hold
two complete trials with a slight offset in start times. Both trials will be held on Monday.
Our host, Woods End Farm is approximately 3 hours from the host hotel in Chattanooga. It is in
Watkinsville, Georgia (East of Atlanta and South of Athens, GA). This site is optimized for herding
events. There is a sheep trial arena, a duck arena and a PT arena that can easily be divided down
to the HT arena.
Both trials will offer HT/PT sheep, A-course sheep and A & B course ducks. The trial sheep are set
on the pan by a person with the stock dog holding them off the gate. Both A & B course ducks
are set with a lift cage. Opening date is February 23rd and closing date is April 15th, 2015.
Judges are Claire Hamilton and Sandra Lindenmuth, both are friends of Cardigan herding.
HERDING INSTINCT TESTS
Sunday, May 10, 2015 starting at 4:30 PM, the CWCCA will be offering an opportunity for basic
herding instinct tests. Some tests may be available on Monday after the trials. Our tester will be
farm owner and AKC judge, Doyle Ivie. Details on the instinct tests are on another page with
updates on the National Specialty Website.
SILENT AUCTION
We will also be having a silent auction of wonderful items on Sunday. This year's auction is being
handled by Sharleen Anderson at [email protected]. Please let Sharleen know if you have
any items you might wish to donate. All proceeds raised benefit the bottom line of our herding
trials.
HOSPITALITY
Barb Peterson is the hospitality chair. There will be complimentary breakfast items for our
exhibitors such as baked goods, pastries, juice and fruit. Some gluten-free items will be
available. Lunch will be available for purchase. Price will be $7. We will need an approximate
count of needed lunches and ask you to indicate your lunch count on your COF form. Lunches
will be paid for on-site at the trial.

HERDING INSTINCT TEST
Think your dog might be the next Herding Champion, Dual Champion or just want to
learn a little bit about herding with your Cardigan? The National Specialty is the place to
find out. The CWCCA will be sponsoring herding instinct tests on Sunday Afternoon May

following the herding trials.

There is no maximum age as long as your dog is physically capable.
Evaluator will be farm owner and stockman Doyle Ivie: Doyle has been training and
showing herding dogs for about 20 years and is an AKC Herding judge. He has shown
Australian Shepherds and Border Collies in ASCA, AKC, AHBA and GA Stockdog
Association stock dog trials. Doyle holds herding classes and clinics where he has
worked with Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, Shelties, Belgian Tervuren, Kelpies,

AKC CANINE
GOOD CITIZEN
(AKC/CGC)
We are once again sponsoring CGC and TDI Testing. Donald & Cecelia Williams has offered to make the
testing available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Times will be published in the schedule of events.
Donald & Cecelia is an AKC Approved Evaluator as well as a certified TDI Evaluator.
The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program. First, to teach responsible dog ownership to
owners and second, to certify that dogs have the training and behaviors needed to be reliable. The CGC
test is noncompetitive. Dogs are not required to perform items on the test with the same precision
needed in formal obedience trials. There are 10 elements for the dog to pass:











Accepting a Friendly Stranger
Sitting Politely for Petting
Appearance and Grooming
Out for a walk on a loose lead
Walking through a Crowd
Sit and Down on Command
Staying in Place
Coming When Called
Reaction to Another Dog
Reaction to Distractions
Supervised Separation.
You no longer need a rabies certificate or immunization record for the CGC test. You will be asked to sign a
pledge that your dog is current on his vaccinations.
We suggest you bring a brush and a 6 foot lead. Dogs can be any age to be tested. Sign-up on the COF
THERAPY DOG
INTERNATIONAL
(TDI)
The Therapy Dogs International test is much like the CGC test with added changes. Sit and Down stays are
in a group setting. The dog must be comfortable around several adults and children, and medical
equipment. Dogs are tested on buckle collars or non-restrictive harnesses (no haltis) and 6 foot lead. We
will provide a lead if you do not have one. Sign up on the COF.
This is a test of behavior, as a dog that jumps on people could hurt a sick person. TDI is a natural extension
of the AKC’s CGC test for dogs who are particularly sensitive and attentive to people, TDI will only test dogs
over one year old. For TDI you must have a current rabies certificate and a license for your dog, if required
by the state in which you live. The fee for the TDI Test (only) is $20.00
The fee for both tests together is $30.00. Please sign up on the Consolidated Order Form. Donald &
Cecelia will donate the price of the paperwork from the AKC. TDI gets $5 for each dog tested. Donald &
Cecelia does not take payment for conducting these tests. The fees collected (minus the $5 collected by
TDI) will go to the CWCCA.
If anyone is unsure of his or her dog’s ability to pass the tests, please come and meet with Don or Cecelia
and they will walk you through what is required. Handicapped dogs and people can pass these tests. You
can also download brochures on either test at www.akc.org/dogowner/training/canine_good_citizen/
links.cfm and www.tdi-dog.org (quick link to brochures). As Pat Santi has said, “I feel that this is an
important part of giving to the community and helps the community learn that dogs do make a difference
in people’s lives.”
We are also looking for volunteers to assist Don and Cecelia with the testing, playing a friendly stranger,
being part of a crowd, etc. We especially need 2 or 3 children each day as reaction to children is a
requirement of TDI testing. Do sign up on the volunteer form or visit www.cardigancorgis.com/ns2015 to
sign up. Feel free to contact Don and Cecelia with any questions at 231-882-5794 or
[email protected].

AUCTIONS
Herding Silent Auction
We will also be having a silent auction of wonderful items on Sunday. This year's
auction is being handled by Sharleen Anderson at [email protected]. Please
let Sharleen know if you have any items you might wish to donate. All proceeds
raised benefit the bottom line of our herding trials.
Performance/Companion Auction - Tuesday, May 12nd at the Performance /
Companion Dinner. As part of our fundraising efforts, performance related
donation items would be most appreciated as a contribution to our auction, but if
an item strikes your fancy, please feel free to include it in our efforts. If you have
an item you would like to donate,
please contact Sheri Morrow O’Brien, [email protected].
Silent Auction/Live Auction - Saturday, May 16th at the Annual Banquet.
In 2014, we made some changes to the silent auction process. This year, we plan
to continue implementing those changes. While there was a bit of confusion
concerning how the changes worked, it did simplify the check out process which
was one of the objectives.
Bidding will be done with a bid number rather than your name. This allows us to
have a sheet prepared for each bid number and we can have your total tallied
prior to check out.
No items are to be picked up by the winning bidder. During and after check out,
runners will bring your items to you at a designated location. This will prevent
anyone from inadvertently picking up the wrong items.
Remember that this will be the second year with the new process and we believe
it made things flow more efficiently last year. We hope to fine tune the process
this year, so please bear with us as we continue to work out kinks.
Thank you to everyone who donates or bids at the Silent Auction. All donations
are greatly appreciated and while we try to get Thank You cards sent out to all
donors, last minute changes and late arriving items sometimes prevent a
complete listing of the donors.
Proceeds from the Silent Auction and the Live Auction go the General Fund unless
they are earmarked for other avenues. These funds are what allow us to pay for
our National Specialty and other events, so please donate and bid generously.
Donations can be sent to the following: Brenda Medlock, 667 Liberty Road,
Winchester, TN, 37398.
Please check the National Specialty website for latest updates and changes http://cardigancorgis.com/ns2015

help cover the operating expenses of the CWCCA and bring you Cardi wares.
We always look forward to seeing Don rolling in from the NorthWest
Territory, loaded with the many club and breed items he maintains and
provides to the fancy. Among the treasures you might find Past CWCCA
Handbooks from 2010 to 1976 or maybe a CD version of them, Past issues
of the CWCCA Newsletter on CD, the official Illustrated Breed Standard, Past
Bulletins, Breeder Resource Guide CD, Breed History Notebook, Breed
History Loose- Leaf, Breed History CD, Choosing A Stud Dog DVD as well as
CWCCA Club Pin, Polo Shirt's, Denim Shirt's, Rain Jacket's, Auto Decals both

where to find it. If there is anything in particular you would like him to be
sure to bring, please let him know in advance. Look for the always extensive
Ways and Means table located in or near the Grand Ballroom.
This table will be open during judging and for a short time after judging ends.
In order to do this, please think about volunteering to serve for one of these
time periods. Please indicate on the COF if you can volunteer at this table by
filling in “Ways & Means” under MISC. - “Anything Else” or contact Don
