March 20, 2015 Dear Parent/Guardian, “Slow Me Down Lord” Author: Wilfred A. Peterson The first four words of this poem remind us of the importance of stepping back and slowing down in life. The poem is especially appropriate during the season of Lent. Are we not challenged daily to find more than twenty-four hours each day to accomplish the many tasks and activities in which our children and we are engaged? Don’t conversations often become a recitation of the litany of “to dos” which await us as we hurry off to the next event? We are all busy people. We are all busy about good and important things. So then, what do we do? During this Lenten season have we given ourselves the opportunity to be quiet and to reflect? During this quiet time have we heard something we did not expect? Has the time alone provided an opportunity for transformation? There is still time to ---slow down, listen, reflect and change! This week our school community is praying for Matthew Anzideo, Mrs. Walters, Cullen Keffer, the Coon family, Alice Rodgers, Valerie Dati, Dr. Mendez, Monsignor Trinity, Richard Gatewood, Conall Harvey, and for all those in need. The students will participate in a school retreat during the morning of Holy Thursday. We realize some families may have scheduled trips, etc. for this time. If you have, we do not expect you to cancel or change your plans. Have a good weekend! Sincerely, Mrs. Mary Ann DeAngelo Principal "Slow Me Down Lord" Slow me down Lord Ease the pounding of my heart by the quieting of my mind. Steady my hurried pace with a vision of the eternal march of time. Give me amid the confusion of the day, the calmness of the eternal hills. Break the tension of my nerves and muscles with the soothing music of the singing streams that live in my memory. Help me to know the magical restoring power of sleep. Teach me the art of taking MINUTE vacations, Of slowing down to look at a flower, to chat with a friend, to pat a dog, to read a few lines of a good book. Slow me down Lord and inspire me to send my roots deep into the soil of life's enduring values that I may grow toward the stars of my greater destiny. Author: Wilfred A. BLOCS (Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools) is an organization that provides tuition scholarships to students attending Catholic Schools in the Philadelphia area. Applications are currently being accepted online at www.psas.org/blocs. This program is available to families with students currently enrolled for the 2015-16 school year in a qualifying Catholic school. (Cardinal Foley). Families with one dependent must have an annual income of less than $90,000. For each additional dependent, you can make an additional $15,000 per child. So, for a family with 3 children in Cardinal Foley, the family can make up to $120,000 per year and still qualify for the program. Awards of scholarships are based on availability of funds and the needs of the families that apply. This year BLOCS anticipates giving away in excess of $14 million to catholic school students in the five county Philadelphia region. There are scholarships allocated for Cardinal Foley students for next school year, so if you qualify under the criteria above, please go online and fill out the application. Decisions on scholarships are made by the Parish Administration and based on the need of the families in the community. This is a great program that can benefit the School and community.
