Call for Submissions - Carolinas Communication Association

CALL FOR 2015 SUBMISSIONS Without communication, our individual and collective lives as we know them would be impossible. We use communication in: • Navigating! our interpersonal relationships with partners, family, friends, and acquaintances; • Navigating! the pursuit of our professional goals and vocational interests; and, • Navigating! the depths and shallows of the cultural, economic, entertainment, social, political, and religious dimensions of the world we share in common with others. Navigating! these relationships, interests, and shared experiences is improved by the development of practical communication skills, which are in turn enhanced by a better understanding of communication processes. Navigating! was chosen as this year’s conference theme in part because the site of the conference, Charleston, is located at the confluence of two rives that empty into a harbor that flows into the ocean. These bodies of water are fed by large and small tributaries that contribute to the whole and shape and are shaped by the geography they transverse. The literal navigation that takes place upon these waters serves as an appropriate metaphor for the Navigating! function communication plays in our lives. As a theme, Navigating! encourages the exploration of a broad range of communication practices and processes, texts and contexts. CCA invites papers, panels, and Great Ideas for Teaching Students (GIFTS) proposals in keeping with the widest possible application of this theme. However, submissions not related to the convention theme are also welcome. Papers and GIFTS proposals The Mary E.
