Join McLaughlin and Harvey’s trainee scheme and you’ll gain a nationally
recognised qualification coupled with invaluable hands on experience, ready to
begin your career in one of the most exciting industries around.
Our trainee scheme will give you the opportunity to train as a civil engineer, quantity surveyor or construction
manager. From day one, our programme is designed to give you the best mentored, relevant and practical
experience in parallel with academic study, tailored to suit your chosen career.
We offer a fully funded five-year school leaver scheme where, on completion, you will gain a qualification
as either a quantity surveyor, civil engineer or construction manager. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get a
professional qualification and on the job experience. At the same time, you’ll be earning a competitive salary
and getting involved in interesting and challenging work. Projects we are currently working on include Kelvin
Hall Refurbishment, Irvine Leisure Centre and Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol.
How do I join the scheme?
What qualifications will I study for?
Joining our trainee scheme is easy! All we require is
that you are over 16 years of age and have achieved;
Civil Engineering
BSc (Hons) Environmental Civil Engineering
accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE),
Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), Institute
of Highway Engineers (IHE) and The Chartered
Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).
If interested in Civil Engineering SQA Higher: ABBB including Maths, Physics,
Technological studies or Engineering Science at B
If interested in Quantity Surveying
SQA Higher: ABBC plus English and Maths at Nat 5
If Interested in Construction Management
SQA Higher: ABBC plus English and Maths at Nat 5
You’ll spend one day a week attending university
studying towards your degree. It’s not all about study
and exams though. When you’re not in University
you’ll be putting into practice what you’ve learned by
working with experienced colleagues on a range of
high profile projects.
You will get responsibility from an early stage in your
career and play a key role in helping deliver projects.
