University of Wyoming - The Coalition for Academic Scientific

Academic Computational Science and Engineering Institute Associate Director
University of Wyoming
The Academic Computational Science and Engineering Institute (ACSEI) is a new entity within the College
of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) at the University of Wyoming. The ACSEI was started with
seed funding from the University and currently consists of 7 UW engineering faculty members and their
associated research groups from different departments including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and
Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Atmospheric Science. The institute is currently run by the
participating faculty who set the strategic direction for the institute, but seeks to hire an associate
director to administer the day-to-day operations of the institute. This position would be resident in the
college of engineering, but would interact heavily with the Advance Research Computing Center (ARCC)
which provides research computing facilities across campus at UW. The ACSEI associate director may
also have an office within the ARCC facility to promote interaction between ARCC and ACSEI. We
anticipate the ASCEI to grow in size over the next several years and to include members from other
colleges in addition to CEAS at UW.
The ACSEI associate director must have an academic background in scientific computing. This person will
be responsible for the daily operation of the institute which involves basic local IT support, but also
academic participation in formulating institute-wide research proposals, building relations with the HPC
industry, managing student course requirements in computational science, and participating in the
overall strategic direction and growth of the Institute.
