GUIDELINES ON BECOMING A HUMAN RESOURCES PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATE What is a Professional Associate? A Professional Associate will be recognised for their professional expertise and knowledge, and appear on the public APP membership directory. You will also be making a commitment to make sure your skills and expertise are kept up to date through participating in Compulsory Professional Development (CPD) each year. As a Professional Member you’ll undertake 20 points of CPD annually including being able to attend CPD events (generally 1.5 hours) for free. Shortly, we will start to build a comprehensive technical resources section that will only be available to Professional Associates. How much does it cost to become a Professional Associate? There is an annual fee of $300.00 + GST per year, made up of: $295.00 + GST Professional Associate Fee; and $5.00 + GST APP Benevolent fund (which will be created to assist Associates in financial hardship). The year runs from 1 July to 30 June each year. For the 2015 year, the period up to 1 July, will be free, with the annual fee applying for 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016. APP also recognises that circumstances change, and if you need to resign part way through the year, all you need to do is email us at [email protected] to let us know, and we’ll arrange a refund of the remainder of your fee, rounded up to the nearest month. What about corporate or bulk rates? If you’re an organisation with a large team, contact us on [email protected] to discuss how we can work with you on corporate or bulk rates for Professional Associates, where the organisation is paying for their membership. How do I apply to become a Professional Associate? There is an application process to become a Professional Associate. You will need to complete the quick online form along with attaching a copy of your current CV. Your application will be reviewed by the APP Advisory Panel, and then we’ll be in touch to let you know the outcome. If the APP Industry Panel assess that you haven’t met the criteria, you will be given feedback so that you can build your expertise and knowledge in the areas needed, and apply again in the future. What criteria will I have to meet? An APP Associate in Human Resources needs to demonstrate that they are qualified to provide generalist operational Human Resources advice to businesses and managers. Generalist operational advice includes: Recruitment and Induction Employment Agreements Managing leave and being able to provide advice on the Holidays Act Knowledge of performance management systems and processes Knowledge of remuneration systems and approaches Managing employment relations issues including poor performance and disciplinary Managing exits including understanding how to manage change and restructuring processes To demonstrate this you will have: An HR qualification or equivalent experience providing generalist operational HR advice to businesses and/or managers; and Knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and practices; and Currently be working in a HR role; and Be a person of good standing in the HR industry.
