The skater's would really appreciate your support. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at the General Membership meeting this Sunday at 6pm! If you would like to place an ad, but haven't let Kendra know yet, please send her an email with your child(ren)s name and the size of the ad you want. This way your child(ren) will be added to the list for the photographers. Kim Zaruba and Craig Shearman will be photographing at this Sunday's on-ice, so have your child dressed and ready for the photo. Again, show costumes are not necessary for the photos. Kim and Craig will need a lot of help this Sunday. Typically we have two people helping each photographer and a runner or two to track down the children on the ice. If you would like to help out, please let Kendra know by emailing her at [email protected]. Just remember to dress warm because you are either on or next to the ice NOVEMBER 6 OFF ICE SCHEDULE Time 1:00-1:30 1:30-2:00 2:00-2:30 2:30-3:00 3:00-3:30 3:30-4:00 4:00-4:30 4:30-5:00 BY DONNA TIMLEN Pat Martha Mice Soldiers Sugar Plums (BR) (BR) (BR) Party-Teens (BR) Arabians (SR) Gingerbreads (SR) Snowflakes (BR) Melissa Teacakes (SR) Chinese (SR) Flowers (BR) Party-Adults & Children (BR) BR = Big Room, SR = Small Room; Note: Time slots are subject to change as practices evolve. Soloists do not need to attend with their groups this weekend but may need to as defined in future. SHOW NEWS BY MIA CHOI We had a fantastic first rehearsal! Hats off to all the skaters who worked so hard and put their best “skate” forward to make that happen! We spent most of the time getting the skaters "placed" and starting choreography. They heard their music and got acquainted with each other and their choreography. Throw in the Halloween costumes and it was quite a day. We will try to get the Sunday practice schedule out as early as possible each week and limit changes as best we can. Thank you for your support as each week you watch things come together, and they will come together we promise! We will have a check-in desk at off-ice practice and on ice, so please remember to have your skater check-in as soon as he/she arrives. Excused absence must be submitted in writing to show directors prior to practice. Please remember that only 2 absences (including sickness) are allowed for show rehearsals. Repeated tardiness or arriving late to practice may result in your skater being removed or rearranged in the choreography. KUDOS to our SNOWFLAKES, FLOWERS and TEEN PARTY GUESTS as they were the only groups to have full attendance at off ice this week. We will also have a volunteer signup sheet ready for you this Sunday, so you can pick up the form as your child checks in. Please remember that volunteering is part of being a member of our club. If you have not volunteered already in other committees, show volunteering is a great way to do your part and have fun at the same time! Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes during off-ice. NO JEANS, and sneakers or ballet shoes are recommended. Any questions regarding practice/show can be sent to Mia or Donna. You can contact them at: Mia: 410-409-3815; [email protected] or Donna: 443-745-4412; [email protected] CFSC News Page 3 NUTCRACKER COSTUMES BY KATINA FINKS Hopefully everyone got some type of information last Sunday about your costume. If you have questions please contact your coordinator and get the information. Some groups had fabric and rhinestones handed out and some groups will be taken care of this Sunday. Please make sure, if you haven't done so already, to pay for your fabric and pick it up. I have been informed that some of the patterns I have listed are no longer available to purchase. If you are in need of one of those patterns no longer available, you may trace the pattern from someone else. Many of the coordinators have the patterns available. We are in need of party dresses and mouse costumes! If you have a party dress that you are no longer in need of please bring it in and give it to the party teen coordinator Tara Clairmont and Heather Offenburg. The mouse costumes go to Kim Scherock the mouse coordinator. The mouse costumes need to be delivered to her sometime this week or by 1:30 to off-ice practice. OFF-ICE PRACTICE Mice- after your group practices all mice that need a costume should meet with Katina and Kim so we can try already made costumes on the girls to see who they fit. The costumes will be sold to those who fit in them best. Those who still need a costume will need to have theirs made. SOLOISTS Sketches and colors are due by the end of off-ice practice this Sunday! A FEW COSTUME SEWING TIPS: ****When sewing with lycra always make sure the shiny side is inside ****When sewing with velvet always remember to cut against the nap **** Never use hot glue for rhinestones. It does not do well on costumes in temperature changes from warming room to the ice, plus it has a tendency to melt the fabric If you need information on seamstresses within the club please feel free to email me at [email protected] or ask your coordinator. Please save all Joann fabrics and Michael's coupons that you will not use and give them to your coordinator! To enter you must have sold at least the minimum of 12 tickets. There are two ways to get your tickets. They can be purchased online at www.columbiafsc.com/shows.aspx or in person at the rink. There will be an additional service fee for tickets purchased online. We have also attached the flyer for you to post on Facebook, email to families, print and hang at your favorite place. GLIDE WITH PRIDE BY SUSAN BLOOMFIELD This week we will again hold Glide with Pride classes, and we will do our best to work around the Nutcracker rehearsal schedule. Of course, Nutcracker rehearsal takes precedence over the Glide with Pride classes. Please listen carefully for when your color is called! This program is run by volunteers - and hopefully the joy of skating and enthusiasm for the sport is shared between the participants. Please help your skater notice when their color is being called - and encourage them to participate. All classes are held at the clock end of the rink. Pre-injury Baseline Concussion Test By Mia Choi Columbia Figure Skating Club and the Children's National Medical Center have been working hard to try and reschedule our concussion testing. The new date for the Preinjury Baseline Test has been scheduled for Saturday, November 5th, 10:15am and 11:15am at the Columbia rink. Questions should be directed to our board directors coordinating the program: Wende Jones and Susan Bloomfield. This informal instruction time by volunteer junior instructors and assistants is intended to supplement, not replace, more formal instruction through group and/or private lessons. THE NEXT ICE AGE BY LYNN HAMPTON Please join us on November 5th from 6 to 8 pm at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD for an open rehearsal of The Next Ice Age Student Company. The Next Ice Age is a dance company on ice featuring 13 Columbia Figure Skating Club members and choreography by Nathan Birch, the company's co-founder and artistic director. The company will be performing a work in progress to Debussy's Nocturnes. The evening begins with a reception, and the skating begins at 6:45 pm in the Logsdon rink. This will be followed by another gathering with the skaters. Please come for what surely will be a memorable night of skating!
