Job Title: Foster Coordinator Reports to: Director of Operations Objective: The Foster Coordinator is responsible for working closely with the Director of Operations to ensure the foster program operates in an efficient, productive, and financially responsible manner. This includes managing volunteers, providing medical services to cats/kittens in the program, and working with all members of the CAT team to make the program successful. They will also work closely with the Program Coordinator to ensure intake of cats and kittens runs smoothly and in a timely fashion. Duties & Responsibilities: • Schedule and coordinate foster trainings • Recruit, train, coach, and retain foster parents • Recruit, train, coach, and retain mentors and assign mentors to foster parents • Coordinate flow of kittens into and through the intake holding areas, foster care, hospital, and adoption floor • Intake and checkout all foster kittens and their moms • Develop and expand adult cat foster care program • Expand foster base knowledge and capacity for bottle babies, undersocialized kittens, and sick kittens and cats • Establish and maintain relationships with our shelter/rescue partners, including coordinating kitten intake • Liaison between hospital and foster parents as needed • Respond to husbandry calls and provide triage support during shelter hours • Schedule surgeries for all foster kittens and their moms and work with Hospital Manager if more surgery days are needed • Coordinate all supplies for the foster program • Manage the population in the Kitten Playhouse • Quick clean cages in Kitten Headquarters; keep KHQ clutter-free • Assist with fundraising efforts to help offset costs of the program • Plan and assist with large kitten adoption event held in June • Plan and host annual kitten baby shower • Perform administrative tasks including accurate and timely management of kitten and foster data • Assist with organizing, planning, preparation, and deep cleaning, and cross-train in other areas of the shelter during the first several months of the year when we have few or no kittens • Other duties as necessary or assigned Qualifications: Experience: • 2-3 years on-the-job Veterinary Assistant experience preferred CAT Foster Coordinator job description 05/01/2015 • • • • Prior shelter, veterinary hospital, or animal control experience preferred 2-3 years fostering kittens and/or moms and kittens preferred Customer Service experience essential Previous experience working within a nonprofit organization Skills/Characteristics: • Leadership, ability to motivate others, coach & mentor, inspire quality performance, problem solve • Ability to foster teamwork and lead a positive workplace culture • Exceptional planning, time management, and organizational skills • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to problem solve and multitask • Extensive knowledge of queens and kittens preferred • Customer service to clients, staff and volunteers and community contacts • Compassionate care for cats and other animals • Integrity, reliability, and strong work ethic • Familiarity with and competence using computers, including Microsoft Office suite, and ability to master new software systems quickly (experience with Shelter Buddy a plus) Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to Lift up to 50 pounds (assisted or unassisted); work in an emotionally and physically taxing environment; communicate effectively with other staff, volunteers, clients, and members of the public; clean animal housing and facility (including housing and other cleaning at low and high levels); provide direct animal care including examining, restraining, medicating, feeding, watering, and other animal handling; effectively navigate the shelter and building; read and keep accurate records/files; and work on a computer, including various software programs. Schedule: It is expected that the Foster Coordinator will perform duties in the shelter and/or hospital a minimum of 30-40 hours per week depending on the season. Monday 9:30-1:30, Tuesday-Friday 9:30-7, some Saturdays as needed.
