Welcome to Kids’ College!
This summer program is offered by the Corporate Services and Continuing Education Division
of Stark State College. Our goal is to develop and expand students’ interests, stimulate
creativity, and provide unique learning opportunities on a college campus. Kids’ College
is held in the Advanced Technology Center, a beautiful self-contained building that includes
classrooms, computer labs, and cafeteria.

Week 4 July 2 - 6 (no classes Wed., July 4)
Students can register for one, two, three or all four weeks.
Morning (3 class periods), afternoon (2 class periods),
or all-day sessions (5 classes) are available.

HOW: Students choose areas of interest from a variety of classes
offered for grades 1-3 and 4-7. In-person or mail in registrations
can be made by completing and returning the registration
form to Stark State College Continuing Education Office,
265 East Maple Street, North Canton Ohio 44720.
Phone registrations using Visa, MasterCard, or Discover can be
made by calling 330-966-5455. The signed release form should
be mailed. Registrations can be faxed to 330-244-8996.
COST: Morning or afternoon sessions: $69 each week
All day session: $109 each week
LUNCHES:
Students who register for all day may bring a brown bag lunch
with them or may purchase lunch in our cafeteria for $3.75 daily.
A weekly menu will be available each Monday. Checks for lunch
should be made payable to A.V.I. Vending machines are available.
MATERIALS FEE: For courses that include a materials fee (see course descriptions),
the fees should be totaled and added to the amount due on the
registration form.
REFUNDS: A full refund, minus a $7.00 processing fee, will be made for
registrations canceled on or before June 4, 2012. Refunds
cannot be made for cancellations received after June 4.

transportation problems.

Let your imagination take over as we create art
from a variety of materials, such as paint, paper,
markers, glue and clay. Bring your own white

Learn how to create fancy flyers, brochures, banners or newsletters for your

Develop your abilities in America’s favorite pastime. Learn all kinds of skills,

Basic Aid Training (Gr. 1-3)
This Red Cross course includes first aid, choking emergencies, water safety,
bicycle and car safety, and avoiding drugs and other harmful substances. You

Basketball Skills and Drills (Gr. 1-3, 4-7)
Since everyone likes to practice on their shooting more than anything else,
this class will teach the basics of ball handling, passing, and the other small
parts of the game to develop your skills to take your game to the next level.
You will learn drills that you can do individually or with friends; either way you
will see that you can have fun and get better all at the same time.

Students will explore, critique, and discuss YouTube videos. You will create a
list of standards and use predetermined standards to evaluate videos. You will

Get a glimpse of Broadway musicals as we learn, choreograph and perform

Ever been inside of a bubble? Learn the “secret” to making monster bubbles.
Take home a dish of super-bubble solution as well as a collection of original

Canton Symphony from A to Zing (Gr. 4-7)
Follow the Canton Symphony Orchestra as they prepare for their June 29th
“Zing in the City” performance. Your musical education will be led by a conductor. You will learn about the instruments of the orchestra, meet musicians,
learn how music is chosen for a concert, and study a conductor’s score. You
will also be invited to attend the pre-concert rehearsal on June 28 as well as be
invited “back stage” prior to the performance in downtown Canton. You will
receive a conductor’s score to one of the concert selections and a conductor’s

The goals of Cat First Aid are to teach participants how to be prepared for

Get your hands dirty with your own clay creations! We’ll use air-dry terra-cotta

Learn how to make characters come alive, move, chase each other and tell

Coloring is not just for Kindergartners. We will focus on complex coloring
schemes using art pencils, markers and more. Learn what a mandala and

Learn basic skills for drawing animals that look real. You will learn how to
sketch animals and then finish them with colored pencils or watercolor paint.

Ready to enter the world of fantasy sports? It’s baseball season and it’s not too

We’ll talk about rules and scoring, hold our own draft, enter our teams for the
second half of the season, and when the week is over – it’s up to you to keep

Learn how to fly an airplane by using a computer flight simulator. You will
learn terms related to flying a plane along with reading maps and using the

What do bouncy balls, water bottles, and stuffed bears have in common?
They are all parts in the projects you can do in this new look at physics. We

Actors will learn the importance of imagination, energy and creativeness while

Electricity is hard at work all around us. Ever wonder what all the buzz is

Journaling Fun (Gr. 1-3)

Enter the exciting world of journaling. You will be experiencing different books
each day. After each story and discussion you will write the story and learn
to draw step by step pictures of people, animals, and insects with detail and
settings. At week’s end you will take home a notebook journal and hopefully
continue at home. All skills are state standard based so you will do better in

Jungle Safari (Gr. 1-3)
Let’s go swinging on vines through the jungle! We will go on a safari checking
out different jungle animals each day. Learn about the things you would need
if you were going on a safari and how you would survive. We will create crafts

Junior Jazzercise (Gr. 1-3)
The strong exercise habits kids develop now can go a long way in shaping their
future. That’s why Junior Jazzercise teaches things like coordination, strength
and endurance, nutrition, and the importance of physical fitness. Children
experience the joy of physical movement as they dance their way through
specially choreographed age-appropriate routines to today’s most popular
music. Each hour long class consists of a 20-minute exercise aerobics segment,
a 20-minute game segment focusing on exercise and nutrition, and a 20-minute dance segment to basic choreography. Kelly Vaughn, Jazzerbee
Lego Architects (Gr. 4-7)
Learn the secrets behind some of the world’s most amazing structures. We
will use Legos to create and explore structures such as, bridges, skyscrapers,
