Brother Fitzgerald, Professor Was 85 Deacon Treiling, Served Yonkers Parish
Brother Kenneth Fitzgerald,
F.S.C., a Manhattan College associate professor emeritus of mathematics and computer science
and co-founder of the school’s
bagpipe band, died March 4 in
Red Bank, N.J. He was 85.
Brother Fitzgerald taught
mathematics from 1971 until his
retirement from full-time teaching in 1996. He served as chairman of the department of mathematics and computer science
and created a course in computer literacy.
He was moderator of the Irish
Cultural Society (the Gaelic Society) and began the college’s
bagpipe band.
He was religious superior
of the Brothers’ community at
Manhattan College during his
tenure there.
Born in the Bronx, he entered
the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 1947 and made final vows in
1955. He held a bachelor’s degree
in physics and a doctorate in numerical analysis from The Catholic University of America. His
master’s degree in mathematics
was from Manhattan College.
A Funeral Mass was offered
March 9 in the Chapel of De La
Salle and His Brothers at Manhattan College. Burial followed
at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in
Valhalla.

Sister Mary Jude McKenna, O.P., who
served as superior of St. Rose’s Home in
Manhattan, died March 7 at Rosary Hill
Home in Hawthorne. She was 86.
She served at St. Rose’s Home, 1979-1986,
and was superior there 1986-1992.
She was on her religious congregation’s
general council, 1989-1997. She served at
Rosary Hill Home, Hawthorne, 1973-1979.
Born in New York City, she entered the
Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne in 1951 and
professed final vows in 1957.
A Funeral Mass was offered March 12 at
the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary at Rosary Hill Home. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.

Deacon John F. Treiling, who served at St.
Peter’s parish in Yonkers, died Jan. 28 at his
home in Daytona, Fla. He was 74.
He was ordained a deacon in 1979, and he
served at St. Peter’s for more than 40 years.
He was director of altar boys and a Eucharistic minister to shut-ins. He also served at
St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers.
