Clinton County Farmers and Sportsmen Association
P R E S I D E N T’ S M E S S A G E
President: Don French
I would like to cover the results of the annual Board
of Directors election that was held on January 10th. The
club saw some changes to the BOD makeup in January.
We lost several past directors who decided to take a break
from the position as a director. I’d like to thank them for
their years of service.
Besides the seven spots that are filled every year, we did
have two additional seats to fill as we had two directors
resign late in 2014.

personal commitments. I’d like to thank Michael for his years of service as president.
For years to come, the membership will be able to take advantage of the many projects he was involved in starting or promoting.
A special thank you goes out to Melinda Adams and associates for providing the membership dinner.
As we enter the busy season at the club, please keep in mind that a lot of
things are happening. The link to the club’s calendar, located at the bottom of the
website’s homepage, is a vital tool to use to keep up on the many events happening.
Remember that growing is a double edged sword sometimes, and using the calendar
before heading out to the range can keep you from making a trip for nothing, and
keep the peace among committees. Communication is key, so please keep that in
mind.
With the growth of the membership, it increases the need for volunteer work
from the members to maintain our facility and keep the membership dues low. If you
could spare an hour here or there, there is always something to do. You can contact
us by email at [email protected] or my phone number will be at the end of the
Safety article.
Safety Committee:
The safety committee will be looking at possible changes to the rule book this
spring. If you have any concerns please inform one of the members on the committee
of your concerns.
Safety is every member’s responsibility, whether you are on a range or just using the facility for other recreational interests. The rules are put in place for everyone
to follow and for everyone to enforce. Safety should be on everyone’s mind all the
time. If you have a safety related issue that is on your mind, contact any director,
match director, Range Safety Officer, or Safety Officer that you can. Most of the time,
especially weekends, you can find someone to fill this bill on-site. If you can’t find one
on-site, give someone on the Safety Committee a call. You can find Don French at

Ackerman at (937)987-2588 or Dave Hoover at(937)383-1226.
CCFSA Legislative Affairs Report Spring Newsletter
The enemies of our freedom certainly learned nothing from the November
election. Senate Democrats who got shellacked in the last campaign season are now
doubling down on stupid, pushing new anti-gun legislation to ban magazines holding
more than ten rounds of ammunition as well as pushing for background checks on all
gun transfers, including those between family members. Clearly they are doing this for
fundraising with their anti-gun zealot constituency as the Republican-run Congress
won’t let this out of committee, but it does serve to remind us Democrats in general
are enemies to our gun rights.
While Congressional Democrats plot against us, the White House has convinced
the BATF to go after SS109 and M-855 5.56 mm ammo claiming it is armor piercing.
They are using the excuse that pistol versions of the AR 15 are now available. I find
this rather ludicrous as AR pistols have been around for around 20 years now. Its
another slap at the American gun owner and infuriating that a Federal agency is again
making what is essentially law, it’s unconstitutional.
A rather chilling tale one would think came out a Orwellian nightmare or
draconian police state, sadly it comes from 0bama’s USA. Documents obtained in a
Freedom of Information Act request filed by the American Civil Liberties Union reveal
that, in 2009, the Drug Enforcement Administration contemplated using License Plate
Readers (LPRs) to track vehicle traffic from gun shows. A highly redacted email from
an unknown DEA official suggests the program was past infancy, and stated, “DEA
Phoenix Division Office is working closely with ATF on attacking the guns going to
[redacted] and the guns shows to include programs/operation with LPRs at the gun
shows.” “The Justice Department has been building a national database to track in
real time the movement of vehicles around the U.S., a secret domestic intelligencegathering program that scans and stores hundreds of millions of records about
motorists.” The authors go on to explain the wide availability of the collected data,
writing, “Many state and local law-enforcement agencies are accessing the database
for a variety of investigations… putting a wealth of information in the hands of local
officials who can track vehicles in real time on major roadways.”
A recent symposium pushing Smart Gun technology reminded us of the folly of
relying on electronics to protect your life. They could not even get their projection
equipment to work. We must work hard to make sure this technology never what
becomes mandated by law to replace what have now.
Not all news from Capitol Hill is bad. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) has
introduced National Carry legislation that would make a concealed carry permit issued
by your state somewhat like your drivers license, something honored in every other
state. Sadly this White House is already making veto threats.
US District Judge Reed O’Connor has ruled the ban on interstate handgun
transfers to be unconstitutional. This provision of the 1968 gun control act has been
an onerous foot on the throat of gun owners for years. However we will see no
immediate change in the law as the Department of Justice will appeal the decision.
Ohio law changes in late March. Jim Irvine of Buckeye Firearms has written
several detailed pieces breaking down the changes in the law. I urge all to go to
Buckeye Firearms webpage at www.buckeyefirearms.org to get up to speed on the
changes.
U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and U.S. Representative Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio)
recently introduced S. 263 and H.R. 578, which are designed to protect the rights of
gun owners on lands owned or managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps).
This legislation would help end the patchwork of firearm laws and regulations that
govern different federal lands managed by different federal agencies.
In a law we hope get here in Ohio, Buckeyes would be able to carry concealed
guns on college campuses, places of worship, day-care facilities, private airplanes,
school safety zones and certain government buildings under House Bill 48, legislation
introduced by Rep. Ron Maag, R-Lebanon. The bill is similar to HB 231, which Maag
introduced in the previous General Assembly. That bill received several hearings but
House Republican leaders ultimately failed to act bring the bill up for a vote. In
speaking of his bill from the last session, Maag said “These are reasonable, practical
changes to gun laws in this state. The aim is to close loopholes in concealed carry
regulations and ensure that those legally permitted to possess a weapon are able to
exercise their Second Amendment right."
In late February Middle Eastern terrorists urged their supporters in the US to
attack soft targets like schools, sports stadiums, churches, and shopping malls
specifically citing the Mall of America and giving the map coordinates for that shopping
mall. It reminds us we are not safe anywhere and that we as Americans should not
have to deal with any no gun zones as a terrorist certainly will not be stopped by such
silly signage.
I did not write the following piece but it is an important article on the record of
a man who once posed as our friend who has acted as our foe in recent years. Since
my friend Chad Baus penned this piece, Strickland has resigned his post, but it’s too
late, the damage is done. He is not our friend and is to be opposed.
As Strickland considers Senate run, gun owners should consider his recent work in
D.C.
by Chad D. Baus
On January 30, media reports were awash with news from the Youngstown
Vindicator that "sources close to him" had "confirmed" that 73 year-old former Gov.
Ted Strickland will run for the U.S. Senate next year. Two weeks later, however, the
former governor's intentions are less clear. According to the Vindicator, Strickland told
reporters during a conference call hosted by the Center for American Progress (CAP)
that he has not yet decided whether to run for the U.S. Senate in 2016 but will "make
a decision by the end of this month." Even as Strickland considers whether or not to
run, Ohio gun owners need to become aware of what Mr. Strickland has been up to
since he left office.
Many gun owners will no doubt hold respect for Strickland's four year term as
governor in Ohio. During his time as governor, Strickland was not only willing to sign
every piece of pro-gun legislation in Ohio that reached his desk, but he also advocated
for its passage. Because of his performance in office, Strickland earned the
endorsement of both Buckeye Firearms Association and the National Rifle Association
in his unsuccessful 2010 re-election bid.
After his narrow defeat, however, Strickland turned his back on the gun rights
community that had kept his re-election race competitive, naming an anti-gun
appointment to the Ohio Supreme Court.
In 2012 he insulted gun owners' intelligence by trying to get them to ignore
Barack Obama's already-abysmal record of support for gun control, endorsing the
president's reelection bid and claiming that Obama "supports and respects the Second
Amendment." Last year, Strickland left Ohio for Washington D.C. to become president
of the Center for American Progress Action Fund. A quick look at the CAP Action Fund's
website is telling. Articles critical of gun rights are posted regularly on ThinkProgress,
the fund's blog, a website which has also routinely published articles fomenting the
myth that a white Ferguson, MO police officer acted improperly when he shot a violent
attacker who happened to be black. To fully understand where Ted Strickand's CAP
Action Fund stands on gun control, one need look no further than the fund's "Assault
Weapons Revisited" report, or to ThinkProgress' "Ultimate Guide to Gun Safety
Debate." In addition to being president of this anti-gun rights group, Strickland is also
listed as a "Counselor" for what the fund website calls its "sister organization" - the
Center for American Progress—the same group that hosted his conference call for the
media this week.
According to the March 1, 2004 edition of The Nation, CAP is the brain child of
anti-gun rights billionaire George Soros, and on November 11, 2003 the Washington
Post reported that he gave some $3 million to its creation. CAP has deep ties to both
the Clintons and Obamas. Among the many anti-gun rights articles on CAP's Guns and
Crime page are "Fact Sheets" calling for a "universal" background checks national gun
registration scheme and federal "assault" weapons licenses, articles falsely labelling
"stand your ground" laws as "license to kill" laws and arguing against a national
concealed carry reciprocity law.
In short, former Governor Ted Strickland, despite the good he did for gun
owners when he lived in Ohio, has completely and totally lost his way in Washington
D.C.
And gun owners aren't the only ones who are concerned about his
abandonment of Ohioans' values. This week, Cleveland Plain Dealer is quoting
Christian Palich, interim president of the Ohio Coal Association, as saying Strickland
has also turned his back on Ohio's coal workers and electricity consumers, just as he
has Ohio gun owners. "Ted Strickland has always liked to claim that he supports Ohio's
coal industry, but he has done just the opposite," Palich wrote in the post. "If he does
[run], Strickland will have a lot to answer to Ohio's coal voters on why he betrayed the
people he used to represent in Congress and why he has been getting paid by a liberal
Washington think tank for the past few years to advocate policies that are bad for
Ohio coal, as well as anyone who turns on a light switch." After spending some time
reading about Ted Strickland's Center for American Progress and the CAP Action Fund,
allow me to simply reword Palich's observations about coal in order to sum up where it
is clear he now stands on gun rights:
Ted Strickland has always liked to claim that he supports Ohio's gun owners,
but he has done just the opposite. If he does run, Strickland will have a lot to answer
to Ohio's gun voters on why he betrayed the people he used to represent in the
Buckeye state and why he has been getting paid by a liberal Washington think tank to
advocate policies that are bad for Ohio gun owners, as well as anyone who has a
concealed carry license.
Stay vigilant and in the fight. Make your voice heard in Columbus and in Washington
DC.
Breaking news! Against all odds, the ATF has announced that for the moment
they’re pulling the proposed ban on 5.56 M855 green tip ammunition. After a barrage
of comments from the public as well as bipartisan criticism from Congress, the BATFE
issued a press release announcing that, “ATF will not at this time seek to issue a final
framework on 5.56mm M855 or SS109”.

THE SPORTING DOG CORNER
By Dave Ackerman CCSFA Sporting Dog Committee
Hello again folks! Hope you all have been healthy
this winter and had a safe, successful hunting
season. Now that waterfowl season is out, Jade
and I have been working on our upland skills at
Cherry Bend Pheasant Farm. So far Jades nose
has not let her down with finding and putting up
at least as many or more birds than was put out.
With expert help from my good friend, trainer and Cherry Bend guide, Jamie
Knowles, Jade has gotten fairly good at quartering within shooting range, slowing
down to a walk before flushing and marking the fall after the shot. Jamie says she
does a lot better than I give her credit for.

Fun Dog Training Facts
Which dog is mentioned in the Bible??
The word “dog” is mentioned forty times in the Bible, but only one breed is mentioned by name, and that is the Greyhound. (Proverbs 30:31)
Consistency in command words matter, just as your tone of voice does. Be calm
and assertive with your dog for best results.
Coming Attractions: Mark your calendars.
Wing Shooters Workshop is coming back Saturday. March 28th 2015.
This year the class will be in a little different format than previous years using

c u r r i c u l u m .
It is the perfect way to see different shot combinations and improve your shooting
skills, thus put more birds in your bag. For more information you can contact me at
the number below or John Townsend at 937-725-1990. As I have said before
“Birds are not hard to hit, just easy to miss”, give us a call, you’ll be glad you did.
If you haven’t heard, or read about it in the Wilmington News Journal, the Golden
Retriever Club of America (GRCA) will be coming to Clinton County and CCFSA. The
GRCA holds the largest National Specialty dog show in the country. Last year they
had over 3500 people in attendance with 2400 dogs competing in various classes.
Some of the classes are Conformation, Agility, Hunt Test, Field Trial, Tracking, Obedience, and Rally. They also have several seminars and dinners then some how
make all of these activates fit in a 9 day period. WOW! I am glad I don’t have to
schedule their events. From what I am being told, there won’t be a motel / hotel
room available in Clinton and the surrounding counties during this event.
CCFSA will be hosting the GRCA hunt test for a 3 day period, Sunday thru Monday, September 26th to 28th 2015. We are still discussing details for this event.
CCFSA will be one of several test locations used and it will just be a small part of
their 9 day long National Specialty taking place at the Robert’s Centre Eukanuba
Hall September 26th through October 4th. For more info on classes and scheduling
check out their website at www.goldensrule2015.org
Calling all club members! Again!!!
We had huge success with the Toller Hunt Test due to the volunteers.
Again I need VOLUNTEERS to help prepare for and work this event. As noted before this is another sizable money maker for our club. Again, I am relying on our
members help to make this happen. Please mark the dates on your calendar; we
are counting on your support.
If you would be willing to help with this event please give me a call at the
