DINNER BEFORE THE MEETING
Hi Everyone, I hope everyone is enjoying
our beautiful summer. This month before
the meeting will be at Murray’s Saloon in
the Village. They have WONDERFUL
food and very reasonable prices. We will
be out on the patio so we can enjoy our
wonderful weather. Out of all the places
we have gone, Murray’s has been the
most professional with our reservations,
they are very attentive and keep in contact with me and they even provide us
with our own special menu. So c’mon
down and help support one of our local
businesses as well as have a good time
with friends. The address 672 Cottage
Lane, BBL, 909/866-1444. They are just
a tiny bit North of Village Drive between
Bartlett & Paine.
See you there-SVP is appreciated.

Hello Busy Bear’s
We welcome in August and all the rain it has
to offer! What a blessing for our community! Terry & I
just returned home from being in the Napa Valley for a
week of enjoying the mineral water for relaxing and the
good wine for sipping to a very green & beautiful Big Bear
Valley! Okay, I am rested up and ready for all the preparations for our Mountain Treasurers XXVI Quilt Show.
This will be a very busy month for us and before all the
excitement begins, I just want to thank everyone who has
volunteered to help make this show the huge success that
I know it will be! Sew much to do sew little time, last
minute quilting, bindings, sleepless night, final touches on
our boutique items and deadlines to meet! Are your show
signs up around town? I just want you to know that you
are appreciated and all your hours of hard work will not go
unnoticed! Those of you who would like to order lunch, you
need to pay Bonnie Snell no later than the August meeting.
Our show is August 30 & 31st. Have you all donated to the
raffle baskets? If not, you can give Susie Meyers $$$.
We have a larger boutique room this year so bring lots of
items Friday night so we can fill the room.
A big thank you to Mary Price for chairing our annual
picnic. I hope you had as much fun as I did!

Bonnie & I were not able to attend
the July meeting with the topic—
Workshops-Pass or Fail. I went to the
SCCQG.Org website to see the Notes on
the meeting. They were not up yet, but
thought I would let you know that the
website if full of info for quilters. I
have used
‘Teacher Information” when looking for a special technique. Also ‘Vendor
Info’ for location of shops. You can, also, find links to different Guilds as to
when they meet, scheduled teachers,
etc. I clicked on to our Busy Bears Link
& up popped our website with past newsletters & our 2014 Opportunity Quilt.
It is a great source of I

2014 PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS
Hope you are all enjoying your summer. What a informative talk the “Batty Lady” presented at the meeting—all you
need to know about what type of batting to use. And if you didn’t make it to the picnic, you missed a fun time. Great
food, great friends and everyone left a homemade pot holder. And the yummy root Beer floats! With the show quickly
approaching & the Challenge Quilt Judging just a couple weeks away, you should be busy finishing up all your projects.
AUGUST PROGRAM: Challenge Quilts—see article for details.
AUGUST WORKSHOP: This will be a Boutique Workshop—time to finish all those projects.
SEPTEMBER PROGRAM: Suzan Waterhouse will present “Journey of a Quilter” - sharing a history of her quilts from
antiques to present day pieces. Suzan teaches in the Redlands Yucaipa area and will be driving up to share with us and
teach the amazing workshop the next day. Do plan to join us.
SEPTEMBER WORKSHOP: Painting your quilt. Be sure to see the samples Suzan sent to share. It’s hard to believe
that they are done with colored pencils. There is no charge for this workshop. Suzan does not charge the guild for her
lecture and teaching but has a kit that has everthing in it to complete the project -$35—she says any skill level can do
this project.
OCTOBER PROGRAM : Nancy Bailey will share “all you need to know about Machine Embroidery. Whether or not
you won a machine or are thinking of purchasing one, Nancy will share tips on how to get the most of the embroidery
experience. She will also share her “Learning Curves-the Successes and Mistakes”
OCTOBER WORKSHOP: Not only will you leave this workshop with a finished “Vintage Christmas Stocking” you
will also learn about Hooping, Stabilizers, Thread , Perfect Placement and Custominzing a Design. A complete supply
list will be available once you sign up and pay for the class.
Learning workshops are $20 for member = $35 for non-members, except this is waived for the Sept
workshop. Fee is due when you sign up.If you have any questions or need to reach me, give me a
call on my cell (562)208-7406 or
email me at [email protected].

ANNUAL BBQG PICNIC
Well, our 2nd annual BBQG Picnic was a rousing success! We had a great turn out,
perfect weather and tons of food. I think everyone that attended had a wonderful time.
The game that we had that was a pot holder exchange, was really a lot of fun and I think
everyone loved their pot holders. I know I did. So much creativity was displayed. Lots of
camaraderie and giggles. Everyone just seemed to hang out and enjoy each others
company. We topped off the afternoon with Root Beer Floats.
Can it get any better? I don’t think so!!

but it will be here before we know it and
with that comes our Annual Christmas party!! Yippie! This year it will be held at Evergreen’s in the Village on Monday, Dec 8th,
at 5:00PM Be sure to mark your calendars.
They have a delicious menu set up for us. I
will have signup sheets starting in October.
Remember, we have an ornament exchange.
The ornaments need to be hand made. They
don’t have to be made by you, but they need
be hand crafted. Our fabulous Boutique at

one up if you don’t have time to craft one
yourself. I hope to see all of you there.
It’s always a memorable evening.

HOSPITALITY
I want to thank all the birthday people
last month for remembering to bring their
dessers without a reminder call from me. I
was busy trying to stay on the good side of
my six year old granddaughter by doing every
thing she wanted to do while visiting her
Gramma. We had a great two weeks together, ( her Mom, too) but I don’t think I could
do it full time anymore. This month should be
easier to make my calls, because I am only cat
-sitting my son’s cat. They pretty well
entertain themselves.

Hope everyone attends the boutique workshop
scheduled for Aug 19th at the Mary Johnson Center.
Please bring a sack lunch, as this a a work day to
finish up our boutique items and show quilts while
having a little fun in the process!
All boutique forms are downloadable from the
July newsletter on the website. I will also bring forms
to the guild meeting and the workshop.
I’m looking for some “bear and mountain” type
fabrics to tear into 1” wide and 10 or 12” long strips to
use as gift bag ties at the boutique. If you have any
scraps of these fabrics that you can donate, that would
be great. I also need plastic grocery bags to put the
purchased items in.
Thanks, and looking forward to a
Successful boutique and quilt show!

Then we will all be busy with the show coming
up….so probably won’t get together again until
