1 Quilter’s Corner Santa Maria Valley Quilt Guild June 2014 Newsletter www.santamariaquilters.com Editor: Dorothy Elerding President’s Message Hi , The Seven Sisters Quilt Show is almost here. I’m very excited! We have all been working very hard to put on a great regional quilt show. If you have signed up to work, our committee coordinators will remind you when you are volunteering. The show is an important part of our fund raising and really runs on volunteers. Now the best part, the SEVEN SISTERS QUILT SHOW - I can’t wait until June28-29. I have not decided what I like the best. Is it all the wonderful pieces of art on display created with colorful fabric, a needle and thread and of course many hours at our sewing machines? We always have simply amazing quilts, wall hangings and garments to inspire us and expand our creative minds. I do love shopping also, at all 49 vendors, selling colorful quilting fabrics, patterns, books, threads and sewing machines so I could try to make a quilt for next year’s show with the fabric and patterns I discovered. Or, just make a quilt for me to enjoy. Oh wait, I still need to finish one more quilt for this year’s show before the June11 deadline. Off to quilting it now… Happy Quilting, Believe or not!! 2014 Dates to Remember Board Meeting: June 4, 10:00 Panera’s General Meeting: June 11, St. Andrews AACQG Meeting June 11, 6:30 Orcutt Community Church . There will also be a "University Day" featuring fabulous learning opportunities with some very special guild members who have graciously volunteered their time and expertise! It is a wonderful chance for everyone to learn something new. The sessions will be about 15 minutes each and rotate so everyone will have a chance to see each station. The demos include Terrie Eskew-Blanket Stitch on the Machine, Linda Lyon- Quilt as You Go using 2 1/2 inch strips, JoAnn Ontiveros-Crazy Four Patch Block, Colette Evans- Continuous Bias Binding and Julie Wajda- Setting Triangles. Guild will furnish plates, etc. Just bring a favorite dish.... 1 Collette and June 2 Grace Errea’s Quilts 2 3 SEVEN SISTERS IS ALMOST HERE!!! Things to remember: Bring your quilts, challenge quilts and garments to the June 11 meeting as this is the final date for submitting them. Be sure the quilts have their 4 inch sleeve. If the quilt is to be judged, be sure the label is covered. For the Challenge quilt, be sure your name is NOT on the quilt itself. Quilts may also be taken to the home of Sandy Clutter or Arlene Rafferty prior to June 11. Call them to make arrangements. If you are volunteering, be sure that you have received the Volunteer Information sheet and the Frequently Asked Questions. Both are also available on the AQGCC.net web site. You will sign in at the Security table in the lobby when you arrive for your first shift and receive your name tag. The same name tag can be used throughout the show. Once you have completed your final volunteer shift, be sure to return the name tag holder to the same Security table. Admissions wrist bands and DVDs will be for sale at the June meeting if you haven't purchased yours yet. It really speeds up admission at the show to have your wristband in advance. $10 for a wristband (admission for both days) and $10 for a DVD. These must be paid for in cash or by check (made out to AQGCC). A big THANK YOU to each of you who has already volunteered to help during the show! "Many hands make light work."
