English: Fluent Swedish: Satisfactory Current Position: Since 2004/2 Research Manager (tutkimusjohtaja) within University of Oulu, Oulu Southern Institute The duty includes the management and scientific lead of the research groups of Wireless Data Transmission (WDT) and Digital Media since 2008, i.e. he is in charge of planning, coordination, and supervision of research and development projects together with industrial partners and educational and research organisations. The key research area of WDT Group is "Wireless Product and Testing Applications for Machines and Systems" including the design of the low power embedded systems. The main enabling technologies and interest areas are RFID and Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks based on short-range radio communication protocols such as 6LowPAN, ZigBee, Bluetooth, UWB. This research area includes also the implementation of indoor and outdoor radiolocation methods and systems. Another main research area is the applications of emerging 4G telecommunication standards, i.e., the LTE and Mobile WiMAX solutions. The research activity includes also radio channel characterisation and measurements. The Digital Media Group concentrates on usability services as well as the research of usability and user acceptance of digital services, novel digital interfaces, and mixed reality. The application based approach enables the providing of ICT support for business and industrial cases via prototyping and proof of concept development of intelligent infrastructures, e.g., Internet of Things type of solutions. 5. Planning, coordination and management of research, development and education projects together with industrial partners, educational and research organisations. Principal investigator in six (6) national research projects funded by Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) Previous Professional Appointments: 2000-2003 Senior Specialist within Nokia Networks, Wireless Broadband Systems Research. The main research interests were the system aspects, impairments of radio wave propagation, and spectrum efficiency of terrestrial microwave links. The radio wave propagation impairments, radio channel characteristics, and radio network interference scenarios were studied to produce analysis and mitigation techniques for allowing better spectrum usage either via frequency reuse on interference scenarios both in coexistence and inter-system cases or improving areal spectrum efficiency in wireless broadband systems.
