We live today not in the digital, not in the physical, but in the kind of minestrone that our mind makes of the two. -Paola Antonelli, Why I brought PacMan to MoMA Registrations and presentation proposals are now being accepted for the Education Innovation & Research Symposium 2015 hosted by Athabasca University’s Centre for Distance Education. Ongoing information will be available from the symposium website at http://cde.athabascau.ca/EIRS/2015. The Education Innovation and Research Symposium (EIRS) will bring together individuals from varying backgrounds who are interested in sharing innovative ideas within distance education research and technology. The symposium will focus on tools and approaches for technology-‐‑supported teaching at a distance, which will include presenters’ experiences, insights, and research results. The primary audience includes CDE students and faculty, but the symposium is open to all who are interested in the development of this growing field. Attendance is limited to 50 participants, plus faculty. The symposium proposals and papers will be peer reviewed, with the symposium proceedings published and made available online in the autumn of 2015. The Education Innovation and Research Symposium will directly follow Athabasca University’s CDE’s Masters of Education and Education Doctorate convocation, in Athabasca, June 11, 2015. EIRS registrants may attend the convocation in Athabasca during the day of June 11 and have adequate travel time before attending the symposium registration and opening social at 7:00 pm in Edmonton. EIRS 2015 -‐‑ Scholar of Note Dr. Terry Anderson Beginning in 2015, the Centre for Distance Education will annually highlight the scholarly contributions of one faculty member. Delivering a keynote speech following lunch on June 12, Dr. Terry Anderson will be recognized as the EIRS 2015 Scholar of Note. Image Release: The keynote presentation by Dr. Terry Anderson and possibly other presentations will be videotaped and photographed. On the day of the symposium, audience members will need to complete and submit an Image Release. Symposium organizers reserve the right to assign seating to those who prefer to not sign the image release form. Hotel accommodations Accommodations at symposium rates are available at the host hotel, the Holiday Inn Express, Downtown Edmonton. (Other hotels are within a short walk of the venue. The site is in central Edmonton, and can be reached easily from outlying areas by car or public transit, including Edmonton’s Light Rail Transport [LRT] system.).
