PM, or by appointment.
Sacrament of Baptism - Congratulations! In co-operation with
God’s creative love, you have given your child breath and now you
wish to give them Real Life through the sacrament of Baptism. You
will be your child’s first teacher in the ways of the Faith. To help you
prepare for this responsibility, you are expected to participate in:
Pre-Jordan Baptismal Preparation Classes, held monthy on
Sundays at 12:15 PM in the Rectory — Prior registration required.
Please call or visit the website.
Baptisms are the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month by prior
arrangement. Contact the Parish Office or visit the Parish website.
Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick - Please notify the Parish Office
when a relative is sick or hospitalized, or going to the hospital for
surgery, and Fr. Gary can arrange an Anointing.
Sacrament of Marriage - To assist couples to enter this sacrament,
the Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires at least six months of formation prior to the reception of the sacrament. Please call the Parish Office to make an appointment to see Fr. Gary to begin your
sacramental preparation. Congratulations for responding to God’s
call to Love.
Sacrament of Holy Orders - Jesus said that we are to pray to the
Lord of the harvest, that workers will be sent at harvest time. The
best way to promote vocations to the diaconate and priesthood is
to invite those men whom you would consider would make a good
priest or deacon. If you feel the Lord might be asking you to be a
priest or deacon, Fr. Gary will always be available to answer your
questions and give direction.

1st Sunday of Lent
This year’s Old Testament readings chart God’s
unfolding invitation to ever-deepening covenant love.
Offered through Noah, this first covenant embraces
God’s whole creation, the fragile earth and all living
creatures, in all our rich diversity. Strikingly, this covenant prescribes no sacred rites, no revealed scriptures.
Instead, its “sacramental sign” is immediately accessible, easily read even by those with little or no religious inclination: “I set my bow in the clouds.” God’s
rainbow pledges that the cosmic order’s recurrent
rhythms, “seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night” will continue in perpetuity, despite our sins, for all creatures’ well-being.
This year’s second readings link Old Testament
and Gospel: Noah’s family, “saved through water,
prefigured baptism, which saves you now.” After Jesus’ baptism and missioning as God’s beloved Son,
the Spirit compelled Jesus into the desert, there to be
“tempted by Satan . . . among wild beasts.”
Each Lent, therefore, begins with the Gospel of
Jesus’ temptation, the perfect episode with which to
begin our Lenten journey toward baptism or baptismal renewal. For, as baptism did not lead Jesus to
peaceful contemplation but to spiritual testing and
self-sacrificing ministry, so we should not be surprised
to find ourselves “among wild beasts” in a world often
indifferent, sometimes hostile. But even here, “ministering angels” are visible to faith-filled eyes, and Lent’s
reconciliation kindles within and among us blessed
reminders of creation’s peaceable kingdom past and
its fulfillment yet to come.
Question of the Week
What “wild beasts” do I find myself among in
these opening days of Lent? Who are some “ministering angels” who bless my life?
A Winter Prayer
Joseph Murphy, Dorothy Maryse Neubrand, Margaret Walsh
and all our faithful departed.
Lord, in the midst of Winter,
when the days are cold and wind can pierce
….. remind us of the warmth of your love.
In the midst of Winter,
when days are short, dawn comes late, and dusk arrives early
….. remind us that in the darkness your light still shines.
In the midst of Winter,
when the flowers of spring still lie hidden in the earth, when leaves
are off the trees, and the world can seem bleak
….. remind us that Easter is but a short time away.
* All the sick and shut-ins of the parish remain in our prayers whether their names are on this
list or not. If you have a loved one who is serving in the military or is in need of special prayer
for any reason, please contact the parish office to have them added to our Prayer List or to have
someone’s name removed from the list if they are no longer in need of special prayers.
And when in our lives we feel as if we are experiencing a season of
winter, reach out to us with the power of your resurrection so that
we may feel the warmth of your love and see your light that alone
can take away the darkness of our soul. Amen.

Participate in CRS Rice Bowl this Lent!
Rice Bowls are available in the Narthex. Please take home a Rice
Bowl and use this fun and easy resource to deepen your family’s
Lenten experience and make a difference in the lives of the poor.
Hungering for a Better Life
Our journey with CRS Rice Bowl begins in Tanzania, where a
simple soybean is changing lives! What actions can you take this
Lent to change lives—at home and around the world?
LENTEN NAILS
Please be sure to take a Lenten nail
from the Narthex. You will never use it for
the purpose that it was intended. It will never join two pieces of wood or hold a picture
to a wall. Each day, you will find it in your
pocket or purse while looking for change or
your keys. Let this nail serve as a reminder, each time you find it
again, that you are loved by God. If you ever doubt your intrinsic
value, or doubt that you are loved, hold this nail for just a moment
and reflect. “God so loved the world that He sent His only son to
die for me.” (John 3:16) Please return the nail to the containers
provided on Good Friday and Easter weekend.
