Two sessions = one great field day!
Sown Pasture Rundown and Climate Clever Beef Project
One day field day with guest speakers presenting an overview and findings of the Sown Pasture
Rundown and Climate Clever Beef Projects. Projects conducted throughout the Fitzroy and greater
Northern Beef Industry. Field walks of the research sites will be conducted with further discussion .
Key Topics & Presenters:
Stuart Buck, Senior Agronomist (Sown Pastures), DAF
Nitrogen tie-up causing productivity decline in sown pastures.
Causes and symptoms of pasture rundown, management
options including legumes and establishment techniques. A field
walk will be held through the Berrigurra Sown Pasture Rundown
research site on Thursday.
Steven Bray, Grazing Land Scientist, DAF
Regrowth has impacts on cattle productivity and carbon. The
trade-offs and potential benefits of managing Brigalow regrowth
for livestock productivity, soil and vegetation carbon and
business profitability will be discussed. A field walk through the
Coonabar Climate Clever Beef research site will be held Friday.
Mick Sullivan, Principal Beef Extension Officer, and Jim Fletcher,
Beef Extension Officer, DAF
Managing pastures for nutrition. Stocking rates and how they
impact diet selection, impact of supplementation, animal
requirements and pasture nutrition by growth phase.
Why should you come:
Pasture rundown and deteriorating land condition result in
poor pasture quality and reduced quantity, therefore having
a major impact on carrying capacity and your bottom
line. Regrowth also has an impact on cattle productivity
however if managed correctly can have benefits to livestock
productivity.
Don’t miss this opportunity to see first-hand some of the
research and development that is taking place in your own
back yard, and to hear from local graziers what they are
doing to combat these issues.
