*Canadian Girl* Homemade Hamburger Helper This recipe is for those who grew up with Betty Crocker’s Hamburger Helper as a kid and hated it. Now that you are an adult and have more discerning tastes I hope this recipe will inspire you to ALWAYS make your own and NEVER buy that ‘crap in a box’ EVER again. What you will need: 2lbs of fresh ground beef 1 can (196 ml) of diced tomatoes 1 bag (16oz/454 grams) of rice pasta (I use rice pasta because I recently switched to a wheat free lifestyle-diet) 200 grams Kraft Parmesan/Romano/Asiago cheese or any other brand you can find OR if you are inclined… shave your own. And of course BACON! 5 strips cooked to almost crispy.(Save the grease! You’re going to need it later) Spices: 1 Tbsp No.7 Hot Sauce (http://no7hotsauce.com) This is a Toronto made, handmade Mexican hot sauce I discovered at the Delicious Food Show. This stuff is HOT and way tastier than Sriracha! - P.C. Rainbow Peppercorn ( 3 generous grinds) - Herbamare (Original) (1 tsp) This stuff is way better and better for you than salt - Schwartz’s Steak & Beef Spice (1 Tbsp) - Sage, Savory and Oregano..all generous pinches..extra on the Oregano..but again.. I always say spice, taste as you go to what suits you, to your liking. ___________________________________________________________ Cook the beef in a deep sauté/frying pan (I’m sure you’ve cooked ground beef before so no need to explain it here Once the beef is cooked, pour in can of diced tomatoes Add spices! Stir and then let simmer on low heat while you prepare the bacon Once the bacon is cooked to your liking, take those strips and cut them into small pieces, throw the into the pan with the beef along with the grease that was made from the bacon While all of that is still simmering on low heat, cook your pasta Once the pasta is cooked and well drained/rinsed mix the pasta in with the beef and stir mixing it all up. The best part is yet to come! The Cheese! Pour 150-200grams of the cheese into the pan and stir gently. This will give the one pan dish a thick and cheesy flavor/texture. This recipe makes about 4-6 servings. It’s even tastier the day after and goes well with your favorite beer Stay Curious & Stay Hungry!
