EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Tarrangower is a well-known and very well-located rural investment property in the
safe rainfall area on the eastern side of the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales.

breeding and fattening property, with
approximately 4km of dual frontage to
Boundary Creek, and is just 30 minutes
from the city of Armidale, its regional
airport, the University of New England

Over the past five years Tarrangower
has undergone a major restructuring
program, transformed from a world
renowned superfine wool enterprise to a
successful cattle breeding and fattening
property. Major works include new
pastures and dams, new fencing and
laneways, whole property electric fencing
and two new sets of cattle yards.

Tarrangower is located on Rockvale Road, 40km north-east of the cosmopolitan city
of Armidale, 40km east of Guyra and 170km west of Coffs Harbour and the coast.

COUNTRY
Tarrangower is comprised of gently undulating
soft trap soils, with strategically remaining shelter
belts and scrubs of good box and stringy bark
timber.
The permanent Boundary Creek runs through
Tarrangower with approximately 4km dual
frontage. The Creek is a well-known fishing
waterway and is stocked with young fish annually.
Approximately 688 ha (1700ac) of Tarrangower
has been pasture- improved, most within the last
five years.
Tarrangower has a private gravel pit suitable for
road topping.

PADDOCKS AND FENCING
The fencing on Tarrangower is very good.
There are approximately 68km of electric fencing
bordering all 59 paddocks. All fences are stockproof and all gates are easy opening.
On the eastern side of the property
approximately 586 ha (1450ac) has been split into
33 paddocks, averaging around 14ha (35ac) per
paddock of improved pastures. These all have
new steel gate assemblies.
An electric laneway runs 5.5km through the
middle of the property from the front paddock
almost to the back.
Electric fences run from a Gallagher 7500,
which comes with fault finder handpiece. The
unit, with dual lightning guards, is earthed by a
professionally designed, 9 rod system over half a
kilometre of fencing.
For ease of movement and efficiency, there are 6
stock grids on the property.

WATER
Water is an outstanding feature on Tarrangower,
which boasts approximately 4km of dual frontage
to Boundary Creek, a permanent waterway. There
are also 90 dams, providing excellent water to
every paddock.

been built to drought-proof the property.

PASTURES AND CROPS
It has been proven that Tarrangower is not
only an award winning superfine wool growing
property. During the last five years of property
development, it has also become a successful
cattle and prime lamb fattening property.
Approximately 688 ha (1700ac) have been
pasture improved with rye, fescue, cocksfoot and
clovers. The balance consists of native pasture
which has mostly had clover seed and perennial
rye included with fertilizer applications.

ENTERPRISES
Situated in the heart of the New England region,
an area renowned for its reliable grazing,
Tarrangower has, in the past, produced some
of the best superfine wool in the world, and
more recently is producing and fattening quality
butcher type cattle and prime lambs.

BEEF CATTLE
In recent years Tarrangower has bred calves to
grow and fatten.
Most weaners are grown right out to around 475500kg for a major supermarket chain, which has
been the primary market.
All cattle are grass fed and fattened on pasture
improved country with a mix of ryes, fescues,
coxfoot and clovers. Extra trade weaners are
purchased according to seasonal conditions.
SHEEP
Tarrangower has been well regarded for many
years as a superfine stud ram breeding and
wool growing property. The clean country and
appealing climate provided a high yielding
and low VM wool clip, where adults averaged
17 microns and weaners averaged around 15
microns. Wool from the Tarrangower clip was
always keenly sought after by wool buyers,
primarily selling to Japanese and Italian groups
for use in premium cloth.
PRIME LAMBS
In recent years Tarrangower has run merino
and first cross ewes for a prime lamb breeding
program, producing first and second cross lambs
for sale each year. The lambs have performed
extremely well, weighing up to 70kg live at sale.
Lambs have proven to fatten quickly on the
large volume of available pastures with clover
bases. Ewes breed well at Tarrangower, and have
produced up to 130% from 1st X ewes.
