Most weaners are grown right out to around 475500kg for a major supermarket chain, which has been the primary market. All cattle are grass fed and fattened on pasture improved country with a mix of ryes, fescues, coxfoot and clovers. Extra trade weaners are purchased according to seasonal conditions. SHEEP Tarrangower has been well regarded for many years as a superfine stud ram breeding and wool growing property. The clean country and appealing climate provided a high yielding and low VM wool clip, where adults averaged 17 microns and weaners averaged around 15 microns. Wool from the Tarrangower clip was always keenly sought after by wool buyers, primarily selling to Japanese and Italian groups for use in premium cloth. PRIME LAMBS In recent years Tarrangower has run merino and first cross ewes for a prime lamb breeding program, producing first and second cross lambs for sale each year. The lambs have performed extremely well, weighing up to 70kg live at sale. Lambs have proven to fatten quickly on the large volume of available pastures with clover bases.
