Post Secondary Student Opportunity – Summer Position

life long living and learning experience for young adults with autism.
Job Description:
Project Coordinator for the Stars for Life Foundation
Marketing & Sales - assist with 2 major fundraisers and activities related to the operation of the first
home for young people with autism on PEI this summer.
Term:
14 -16 week term, starting April 27th, 2015
Candidate:
Holland College Student or UPEI Business Student
Purpose:
The purpose of this position; is to co-ordinate and manage the sale of a major fundraising car draw
tickets, on behalf of the Foundation; to find new markets for the ongoing souvenir Sand Bottle
project; to market the Glass Sand Ball and new “Storm Dips”. To assist with a major fundraising
dinner in May and to assist the Executive Director and Director of Autism Services with activities as
they arise, including setting up marketing events and training programs.
These projects will help supply funds for operation of the first home and resource centre on PEI for
young adults with autism. The student will also be responsible for promoting the work of the
Foundation to the general public.
Responsibilities:
1. To assist with fundraising dinner and auction – invoicing tickets, contact businesses for
auction item donations, set up digital display for live auction, help set up of silent auction.
Attend the May14th dinner to assist in all areas of the event.
2. To update a mail out database of businesses of contacts for the car draw.
3. To do a mass mail out of an introductory letter and informational brochure to businesses on
the car draw in a short time frame.
4. To learn the basics of the disorder of autism and the work of the Foundation so that questions
by the public can be answered appropriately.
5. To contact the city and province to create a list of events on the Island in order to market the
car draw as well as on-going work of the foundation.
6. To contact event planners to obtain permission to set up display and sell tickets.
7. To set up a schedule of events; which the Project Coordinator will attend, in order to market
Stars for Life events such as the car draw and golf tournament..
8. Organize any volunteers needed at display events.
9. To report weekly with a detailed written report to supervisors on work from previous week as
well as plans for the upcoming week.
10. To communicate and report to the Executive Director, Deb Calviello
11. To be responsible for invoicing and delivering or mailing tickets sold for both the car draw and
the fundraising dinner.
12. To simultaneously, contact existing car draw customers, find new markets for the Sand
bottle project, Glass Sand balls and Christmas cards. These products need to be in all stores
by June 15th latest. Contact stores for re-orders in a timely manner.
13. Co-ordinate with the student with autism working on the sand bottle & Glass Sand Balls
project for filling, invoicing and delivery of orders.
14. To conduct yourself in a professional manner at all time
15. To work independently, responsibly and faithfully, realizing that the quality of the work done
will directly effect the quality of life for young people with autism on PEI.
16. Student must be personable, able to multi task, organized and be a self starter.
Terms of Employment:
 This job will be for 37 paid hours a week
 Mileage will be paid at a rate of .31 cents per kilometer.
 A mileage log must be kept, submitted with expenses in a timely manner..
 The Foundation is responsible for any out of pocket expenses incurred in the line of the job.
 In order to be reimbursed, all expenses must be submitted with receipts.
 Lunch and other breaks are unpaid time.
 Sick days are unpaid time off.
 Work will entail some weekends and evenings however, should not total more than 37 hours
per week. Days off would generally be Tuesdays and Wednesdays in lieu of Saturdays and
Sundays when weekend is worked.
 Student must have their own vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
 Rate of Pay $12.50 per hour plus 4% vacation pay = $13.00 per hour
