INSTRUCTIONS
Snowball blocks: Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of all fabric H 4½" squares. Position a
square in each corner of a fabric B 12½" square. Sew on the drawn line, trim ¼" from stitching line, fold resulting
triangle out and press.
Make 4 B/H Snowball
blocks. Repeat with 3
fabric A 12½" squares and
3 fabric H 4½" squares to
make 3 A/H blocks.
Repeat again with 3 fabric
E12½" squares and 4
fabric H 4½" squares to make

Road to California blocks: Referring to the diagram
and watching orientation of the fabric H triangles
carefully, sew a fabric H 4-7/8" triangle to one side
of a fabric G 4½" square and one side of a fabric F
4½" square. Sew a fabric H 4-7/8" triangle to opposite sides of a fabric M 4½" square. Sew the
squares together to make a diagonal unit. Sew a
fabric K 8-7/8" triangle to opposite sides of the
pieced diagonal unit to complete the block. Make 5
Road to California Block
blocks with fabric F-M-G squares and 5 blocks with
fabric I-M-J squares.
Nine Patch blocks: Sew a fabric F 2½" square to one side of a fabric H 2½"
square. Sew a 2½" fabric M square to the opposite side of the fabric H square.
Make 8 I-H-M strips. Sew a fabric H 2½" square to each side of a fabric M 2½"
square. Make 4 H-M-H strips. Sew a F-H-M strip to each side of a H-M-H strip
to complete a Nine Patch block. Make 4 blocks.
Row Assembly: Referring to the Quilt Assembly Diagram sew the blocks into 5
rows of 4 blocks each alternating 2 Snowball blocks and 2 Road to California
blocks in each row. Carefully note the block orientation as you sew the rows

together.
Sew a fabric L 1½" x 60½" border strip to opposite sides of the quilt center. Sew a
fabric L 1½" x 50½" border strip to the top and bottom of the quilt center.
Sew a fabric C border 2½" x 60½" strip to one side of a fabric D 4½" x 60½" border strip to make a side border
unit. Make 2. Sew to opposite sides of the quilt center.
Sew a fabric C 2½" x 50½" border strip to one side of a fabric D 4½" x 50½" border strip to make a top/bottom
