2 Block 1:
This block is foundation pieced. Print four
sheets of “African Safari Block 1” making sure
that you print at 100%, and that “scale” is not
selected.
1. The geese are made up of the fabric D
rectangles and the background is from
the fabric C left and right triangles.
Complete to make 8 blocks as seen
here.
2. Trim the blocks down to 3 1/2" x 8 1/2",
(Trim 1/4" past the SOLID line.)
Block 2:
This block is also foundation pieced. Print one
sheet of “African Safari Block 2” making sure
that you print at 100%, and that “scale” is not
selected.
1.
Make 2 “A” units and 2 “B” units as in
block 1; then sew an “A” unit to a “B”
unit so that the points of the geese,
point towards the center. Repeat to
yield 2 blocks.
2. Trim the blocks down to 3 1/2" x 8 1/2".
(Trim 1/4" past the SOLID line.)

fabric D half square triangle. Repeat to

the quilt.
8. Miter the corners, then trim off the
excess fabric to complete the outer
border.
Finishing:
2. Trim blocks to 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Assembly:
1. Sew one block 1 to each end of a block
2, pointing the geese of block 1 towards
block 2. Repeat to yield 2.
2. Sew one to the top and one to the
bottom edge of the center panel.
3. Sew one block 1 unit to each long edge
of the fabric D 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" rectangle,
so that the geese point towards the
rectangle.
1. Layer the quilt top with the batting and
backing and quilt as desired.
2. Trim the backing and batting even with
the quilt top.
3. Sew the binding strips end to end with
diagonal (bias) seams to form one long
strip.
4. Press the strip in half, lengthwise,
wrong sides together.
5. Sew to the quilt front, using a 1/4" seam
allowance, matching the raw edges of
the binding with the edge of the quilt
top, mitering the corners.
6. Turn the binding to the back and stitch
in place.
Enjoy your quilt!
4. Sew one block 3 to each end of the unit
made in step 3, making sure to align
them as in the picture below. Repeat to
yield 2.
5. Sew one of the units made in step 4 to
each side edge of the center panel to
complete the inner border. Refer to the
quilt image to correctly align these
strips.
6. Center and sew a fabric B strip to
opposite sides of the quilt aligning the
strip so that the feet of the animals face
towards the panel. Begin sewing the
seam 1/4" in from the beginning and
ending 1/4" before the end. Do NOT
trim off excess fabric.
*Please note that the instructions for this quilt were written for the sole purpose of using the “African Safari” fabric
