Has it been a month already? Time flies when you’re having fun and stirring up dust. There’s never a quiet moment. The Fitness Room is up and ready to go for all Social and Golfing members. It ‘s not Planet Fitness, but it is a starting point. We are proud to be able to offer this benefit to our members. We welcome your comments on how we can best improve on what we have. You will need to sign a waiver releasing the Club from liability and Cara or one of the admin staff will give you the magic code to have access. Enjoy! The playground area is coming along and will be opened soon. Dana Reagan and her team are doing a fantastic job. The golf course is beginning to sprout and it is looking good. I want to congratulate all of you for staying off the fairways during the dormant season. I feel that you will benefit greatly for your efforts this summer and the condition 14801 of the fairway will be the best we’ve had in years. We have several golf tournaments this month, starting with the Master Pro Am on the 11th, Guys and Gals on the 18th, and the Annual Tom Green Memorial on the 25th and 26th. Throw in a couple of MGA Skins games and you’ve got a full plate. I would think with all of these choices, the golfers should have plenty to choose from. .No excuses for not playing! We are excited about the Club Celebration on the 18th as well. It’s spring and the lake is up. Your involvement in the Club activities have made CCCC what it is. Please plan to join us. I know that with the changes we are making at the Club, along with some major oversights on our part, there seems to be an undertone of dissatisfaction and apprehension on where we are going, why are we going, and what will it look like when we get there. Those of you who have read the book Who Moved My Cheese may find more comfort knowing that we are doing something to make this happen in a positive way. If we are standing still we are stagnating. Competition in the country club industry is furious, but we are different than many of our competitors. We are resilient largely due to the community involvement with our Club. It’s a family matter! I’ve come to understand the emotional aspect of this Club. When there is change within our boundaries, it creates an emotional upheaval that not only affects individuals, but many more. With the close ties this Club brings to the communities, it affects many families. It brings emotional tension for nearly every member of this Club. Trust me, these changes are not intended to cause trouble, but to bring forth a different direction and purpose for this Club. We have many things within our Club that are changing and with time these changes will become a part of our daily lives. Let’s keep everything in it’s proper perspective. We will get through this and there will be other changes that will occur. This is what moving forward is all about and, maybe it is backward, but in the long run we will learn what not to do. It’s been said my someone smarter then me that failure is the fertilizer to success. Many of you may not know that our beloved Administrative Manager, Donna Baker, has had several mini strokes within the past couple of days and is being evaluated at the Tyler Hospital. I do not have much detail at this time and, as they become available, we will let our Club family know. Your prayers and thoughts for Miss Donna would be greatly appreciated. Please be patient with the admin staff. We are scrambling to figure out all the processes that Donna performed for us with ease. 2015 BOARD OF DIRECTORS & COMMITTEE CHAIRS Finance Golf Greens Membership Tennis Clubhouse As we celebrate Easter let us give thanks for all we have been blessed with and share those special moments with family and friends. Life moves on at a rapid pace and we never know what lies ahead. Live for the 3845 moment. I’m still whistling, Bob Bob Relyea Jason Hardy Brad Moody Kim Stratta David Lindsay Darrell Petty If you would like to volunteer to serve on a committee, feel free to contact any of the chairs. 2 BOARD OF DIRECTORS Dear MembersAs many of you know, the Board held a vote related to our house rules regarding whether our clubhouse should be a smoke-free facility. The vote carried and a new house rule was formed. In accordance with Section 2. (c) 4, the Board "is the final authority and is responsible for: Making and enforcing Club policies." On March 19, 2015, the Board was presented with a request that the Members have the opportunity to vote on the smoke-free issue. There is no guidance within our By-Laws for a Member vote as to house rules, only amending the By-Laws within Article V. However, based on the 4434 sensitivity of the smoke-free issue, the Board held a vote to allow all dues paying Members to cast a vote on the smoke-free issue. As such, all dues paying Members will have an opportunity to vote on the issue by 5:00pm April 20, 2015. There will not be a meeting and only cast ballots will be counted. Thank all of you for continued participation and support. Fitness Room Is Now Open! We have finished furnishing the fitness room, and it is now available to our social and golfing members and guests. We have a variety of exercise equipment for you to use: treadmills, bicycle, elliptical, ect. You will have to sign a waiver form that is available via email or the front office. Return the waiver form to Cara, and she will provide you with the 4-digit code to the fitness room door. There will be a sign in sheet to register you and, if any, your guest. There is a $5 fee per guest. We hope you enjoy this benefit and look forward to your comments! 3 MEMBERSHIP & PROPERTY OWNERS ADVERTISING SPACE In loving memory of Newsletter Advertising Space Business Newsletter Inserts Raymond Adams Sponsor Board Golf Course Benches MEMBERSHIP UPDATE Well, we had our first membership committee meeting in March and I have to say I'm excited about the participation! We have 22 members on this committee and are working diligently on the 2015 membership strategic plan. To start, the group is re-evaluating the social membership and dining membership packages to make sure we are in alignment price-wise and feature wise with our competitors and to make sure that our membership program is the best it can be. I know there are a lot of questions right now about the dining & social memberships. Those will all be answered this month, so keep your eyes open for updates! Special thanks to the group of dedicated members helping with this project! On the fun side - We are looking to start re-implementing a social calendar with activities that will appeal as many people as we can. I love bingo Thursday and can't wait to get started on additional social activities to draw this great group of people together on a more frequent basis. Looking forward to seeing you all at the club soon for some great fun! If anyone has specific questions or advice for me, as always, email me at [email protected], Kim Stratta, Membership Chair, Board of Directors 4 PRO SHOP, COURSE & TOURNAMENTS FROM THE GOLF SHOP: Well the Masters is finally here! For many that is the unofficial start of the golf season. We have begun the start of our tournament season with our CCCC Match Play championship. This should be an exciting event and I would encourage you all to follow this event as the results are posted just inside the golf shop door. In addition to this event we also have kicked off the MGA Skins game, we had a nice turn out for our first event. With a nice pot that continues to grow, I would expect the crowd to grow as well. SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT: Looking forward to Spring! Everything is starting to turn green. Fairway aerification went well despite some much needed rainfall. It is now time to get all our mowing We have a new tournament scheduled for April 11, the Masters Pro-Am. This event will pair you with a professional that is playing on Saturday of The Masters. This will be a 9:00 start and we will blind draw a partner for you before you tee off. We will have lunch following play and encourage you to stick around and watch as your partner finishes on TV. equipment back onto the course to keep it nicely manicured for your golfing experience. April is also the month we will be applying our fertilizers and preemergence to the entire course. If all goes as planned, we will be fertilizing sometime between the 1st and the 15th of this month, if not sooner. We will have notices posted in the Pro Shop on the exact dates. I ask you to Finally, we will end the month with the Annual Tom Green Memorial Tournament slated for April 25-26th. This is a two man shamble which will start at 10:30 each day. Please contact the pro shop for more information on all events! please keep your carts on the paths until we can thoroughly water the fertilizers and preemergence into the soil. Now just to briefly touch on a little housekeeping. You may have noticed a few cigarette butt receptacles placed around the course. They are there for now as a friendly reminder to Jason Hardy, Director of Golf place your cigarette butts somewhere other than your golf [email protected] course. They are unsightly and do not decompose. -D [email protected] TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE April 7 Eustace HS District Tournament 8:00 A.M. April 18 Guys & Gals 12:00 P.M. The grass is greening up, the lake is full and the weather is all ABOUT golfing! Come on out and support our Club and your Association. Our MGA sponsored Skins Game is back on for 2015 and we already have a pot of over $400.00 just waiting for the stars to line up for some lucky Saturday afternoon team. We tweaked the rules just a bit this year to insure that CCCC members have a priority spot on the waiting list once we reach our limit of 45 players. Spots are still open so sign up and join us at 3:30pm for the Skins Scramble Team Making and 9 hole play. The MGA has selected a couple of work projects that we would like to get underway as soon as possible with our members help. First, we need a small work crew to rebuild the wooden bridge railing on Number 13/14 and then we need to assemble two separate work crews (one for the front & one for the back) to rebuild the water cooler boxes on the course. If you are willing to help, please email me or any of the MGA officers and we will organize a work schedule to kick off our 2015 efforts. Additionally, we have been asked to support the replacement of the range picking equipment that is badly needed by the Club. We expect to soon be able to make a donation in the name of the MGA and we are working with Bob Relyea at the Club to sort out the details. As we all know, lots of moving parts and some changes are in progress at the Club but regardless, without all our support and patronage, this Country Club has a difficult time ahead. The MGA and its members are a big part of CCCC and your Association officers stay engaged with Club leadership and especially with those board members whose nomination and election we supported in a continuing effort to be a positive resource for member input. Please don’t hesitate to let us or the Board directly know your concerns, issues or constructive feedback as our Club transitions and moves forward. Well, we thought March of last year was bad with all the sleet, but this year March covered us with snow. Texas weather is always a surprise, of course we did need the rain. Our first play day did not get off to a good start again, but take heart Spring will take over and we will be enjoying beautiful weather soon. Please remember we sign in at 8:30 and tee off at 9:00, cards at 10:00 if we cannot play golf. We will have East Texas here on May 21st. Contact Rhonda Brooks for information. We need to continue to remember our friends in recovery and rehab. Wishing everyone a beautiful Easter. “Your own sky will lighten, if other skies you brighten by just being happy with a heart full of song.” Ripley D. Saunders Our next meeting will be April 16th after play. See you on the course, Becky Lenamond Continue to support YOUR Club, support YOUR MGA events and lets all have a great golfing season. Thanks to all our association members that do so much for the MGA and for our Club. 14703 Drive ON! Respectfully, Ken Cates 6 TENNIS ASSOCIATION Well the Tennis Courts are scheduled to be resurfaced as soon as the weather permits. Not only the top has to be dry but the cracks and under the foundation must be dry as well otherwise the water underneath will work its way to the top and can damage any new resurfacing. I hope this will give the club added value to new and existing members but will greatly improve our appearance or for the HGTV watchers our (Curb Appeal). We are currently reaching out to find a tennis coach for lessons, summer camp and to schedule some tournaments.
