Bubblefest 2015 Volunteer Welcome Packet Date: Saturday, March 28th 2014 – Sunday, April 12th 2015 Shifts: Morning: 9am – 2pm Afternoon: 1pm – 6pm Location: Discovery Cube Orange County 2500 North Main St. Santa Ana, CA 92705 Parking: Due to our construction we do not have information on where volunteer and staff parking will be. Parking instructions will be provided to your club leader at a later time. Drop Off: If you are getting dropped off or picked up, we recommend that you arrange a drop off and pick up spot away from Discovery Cube OC, we recommend Citi Bank across the street (see next page for map). Meeting Area: Volunteers showing up for their shift can gather at the front of the building. Activities: Volunteers will help facilitate 4 stations. Jobs will be assigned during volunteer check–in. Please keep in mind that these are very broad over views of the volunteer positions. You will receive specific instructions once you are assigned to a location. 1. Bubble Activities – Volunteers assist Guests through bubble related educational activities at stations located in the Festival area including bubble exhibits, inflatables, guest service, crowed control, and table top activities. 2. Bubble Store – Volunteers will be assigned to a store manager to assist with any store needs throughout the day. Tasks can include organizing displays, stocking items, and answering questions. 3. Bubble Tent – Volunteers are needed to help with the Mega Bubble Show; directing traffic, crowd control, load in, load out, and much more. 4. Parking – A small group of volunteers will be partnered with the onsite parking staff to assist with bus parking, VIP parking, and Handicap parking. Dress Code: Discovery Cube OC takes pride in our appearance and guest service. Volunteers are required to adhere to our dress code and appearance. Each Volunteer needs to have a signed copy of our Dress Code and Appearance Guidelines during check in. *Volunteers who are not in the proper dress code will not be allowed to volunteer. Good to know: - There will be around 30 volunteers a shift. - Volunteers will not be allowed to keep any personal belongings on them other than what they can carry in their pockets. Cell phones or electronic device use is not permitted on the exhibit floor. - The festival area is far from the building, we recommend volunteers leave all unnecessary belongings at home. - Light snacks and water will be provided; however, bring cash for vending machines and food trucks. - If you would like to have your hours verified, please bring completed forms from your school or organization. Point A: Get dropped off at Citi Bank. Please drive slowly through their parking lot Point B: Walk to Discovery Cube OC. Do not park at Citi Bank you will receive a parking ticket. These are DROP-OFF instructions only. Our Policies and Behaviors Thank you for choosing to volunteer with Discovery Cube! We are excited and proud to have you join our team for the day. Not only are we about education and science, we are proud of our professionalism and friendliness. Please take a look at the guidelines below. We ask that you please follow them during your time here to help us present a friendly, professional, and unified team. 1. Do not carry backpacks or purses during your shift. 2. Do not use your cell phones or any other devices while out on the exhibit floor. 3. Do not eat food or drink beverages in front of Guests, this includes Taco Bell and their dining area. 4. Do not chew gum while working the exhibit floor. 5. Refrain from using profanity. 6. Refrain from using words like “shut up” or “stupid”. For 5 year olds, it is considered profanity. 7. Do not touch children or Guests. High-fives are OK and encouraged 8. Refrain from having private conversations while on the exhibit floor. 9. Do not sit or lean on the exhibits, exhibit chairs, or the floor during your shift. 10. Do not leave your assigned station without being released for your break or without communicating with your team leader. 11. Do not play with exhibits while in the volunteer uniform. 12. Please take your breaks in the back office, away from our Guests and the loud exhibit floor. 13. Please plan to stay for your entire shift. Good Things to Know 1. Plan to arrive a little early in order to find parking and to check in. 2. If you need paperwork signed, make sure you bring your pre-filled out forms (you can use the information below.) 3. Bring a lock! We have small lockers you can place your belongings in. 4. Leave things you don’t need at home or in the car. 5. Wear something easy to change in and out of. Tank top or t-shirt work best. 6. Bring a watch. Helps with tracking your breaks and knowing when it’s time to go home. 7. Bring a water bottle or a cup. There is a water cooler you can use during your break. To help the environment, we don’t provide disposable cups. 8. Bring some cash. We have a few vending machines if you are looking for a snack. 9. Wear comfortable shoes! 10. Eat before you come. Laughing, smiling, and helping kids is a tough job! Seriously, it is. Volunteers will dress appropriately for the conditions and performance of Discovery Cube is a classic, professional look that is clean, natural and polished. Extreme trends and cutting edge styles do not support our image and are not permitted. Those working directly with our Guests are expected to represent Discovery Cube as a professional educational institution. Volunteers who are not in the appropriate dress code will be unable to volunteer . Dress code: Full length /Jeans are not allowed. o Pant leg should be straight or loose fitting after the knee. Comfortable, closed-toed shoes, black or brown. Discovery Cube official shirt tucked in neatly with no bare midriffs or rolled sleeves. Shirt will be provided when you arrive Nametags will be worn on the front of the shirt in the upper left-hand quadrant and must be worn while in uniform. Volunteers must wear their own nametag and name tags will be provided at the event. Dependent on weather - Plain black jackets with no visible logos can be worn when working a shift outside. If you are prone to being cold we recommend a black under shirt with long black sleeves. Optional additions to the uniform: Belts must be worn at the natural waistline. Belts will be black or brown and cannot be studded and/or decorated. Only black long-sleeve shirts may be worn underneath the Discovery Cube shirt. Personal Appearance: Clothing should be neat, clean and in good repair. Jewelry should be small and conservative. Nose, lip or other face jewelry cannot be worn on site. No visible tattoos. Hair should be neat, clean, of non-spectacular design and of normal human color. Hair should be neatly combed and arranged in a classic, easy to maintain, proportionally balanced style. Extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Subtle highlighting is permitted as long as it is well maintained and complimentary to your skin tone. Facial hair needs to be well groomed/neatly trimmed (no stubble) and sideburns cannot extend past the earlobe. Make-up and fingernail polish should be natural tones that compliment your skin tone.
