NEEDED: Middle School Students
Safety Town is a summer educational program that introduces safety awareness
to preschool children. Certified teachers, YOU - THE VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTOR,
and guest speakers such as Beaverton Police Officers, TVFR Fire Fighters, Poison
Control and many more will teach a 2-week session based on the accredited and
certified National Safety Town program.
Due to the popularity of this program, only the first 40 volunteer applications
will be considered. Thirty applicants will be selected to join the program after
group interviews take place. See reverse side for details.

Safety Town Student Instructor Volunteer Position
JOB DESCRIPTION
The volunteer instructor is responsible for leading a variety of activities, including arts and crafts,
games, songs, outdoor and other recreational activities for children ages 4 -6 years. To be eligible
for consideration, volunteers must be available for a GROUP INTERVIEW session, the PROGRAM
ORIENTATION and ONE of the 2-week sessions listed below:
Interviews: May 16th & 17th (select a group interview time on the online application)
Program Orientation (mandatory for all volunteers): Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 9am -12pm
Program Sessions from which to choose:
Session I: July 6–17, 2015 - 8:30am-3pm
Session II: July 20-31, 2015 - 8:30am-3pm
Session III: Aug 3–14, 2015 - 8:30am-3pm
BENEFITS
This position provides an opportunity to learn new skills in working with pre -school aged children.
Volunteers help teach the value of safety to the young participants. This position also provides an
opportunity to help make your community a safer place to live. All volunteers will be recognized
at the conclusion of the Safety Town session. Finally, you’ll have FUN, FUN, FUN!
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
 Assist with the set-up & cleanup of the classrooms and facilities used during the program
 Provide leadership and instruction in assigned areas
 Practice and lead skits and songs for the program
 Maintain and organize supplies
QUALIFICATIONS
 Must be between 12–15 years old
 Some experience working with preschool-aged children
 Ability to communicate tactfully, courteously, and effectively with the Safety Town Director,
Assistant Director, participants, co-volunteers, and parents
WORKING CONDITIONS
Volunteers will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions including humidity, sunlight, wind, hot
and cold temperatures and noise. This position requires long periods of sitting, standing and/or
assisting with Safety Town classes. Bending and lifting is required while setting up and putting
away equipment. Volunteers will also be in classroom and office environments with noises and
interruptions from participants, parents, and program staff.
