A not not-so-little little blonde haired woman is huddled over her computer, wearing three layers of shirts, the warmest sweatpants she can find, socks, bedroom slippers and a pair of fingerless mitts so she can type. Oh, and an afghan on h her lap. I thought I liked cold weather. Shoveling snow, walking the dogs – well, I’ve already had my quota for this year! I’m looking forward to our January meeting. Library Monica Kent will show us her intriguing pizza post cards and Sue Chemler will present a slide show on the history of love notes, tokens of love, and courting courting. In February, quilt artist Mickey Dupree will lecture on ”Tips, Tricks & Other Stuff”, with an afternoon workshop on ““Colorific ific Quilts”. Quilts” Be sure to sign up for the workshop; a nominal fee is being charged with the amount depend depending on the number of people who register. Get ready! It’s coming! Sue and I will unveil the new Challenge at the January meeting. The plan is to present the idea in January and see the results in May at our Spring Luncheon. We enjoyed seeing the very different interpretations of the greeting card that were presented at the December meeting. Thanks to all who brought in their completed projects and to those who started but didn’t get a chance to finish them. Here’s hoping that we have a little more and less busy - time for this one! Looks like some fun times are headed our way! SEPT 13, 2010 – Papermaking Workshop with Carolyn & Mary Mueller - We will th make paper sheets for use in the Book Binding Workshop on Feb. 14 with Cheryl Mahowald. Join Mary and Carolyn for a day of creative fun. We will explore three different papermaking types: EMBEDDING--adding pieces of thread, dried flower petals, seeds or spices to a sheet of paper. EMBOSSING--creating a raised or recessed design on a sheet of paper. CASTING/MOLDING--using a cookie cutter to make a formed shape. Use your creation to make a wall hanging or special card. Each participant will take home a few sample sheets. The supply list will be given when you sign up. Bring a dedicated blender if you have one. (*Alternate Location) OCT 11, 2010 – Shibori Workshop - Diana Urso (*Alternate Location) – We will make a silk shibori scarf. Materials will be required: plastic pipe, dyes, foam brushes, mixing cups, water, strong string, masking tape, iron & board, hair dyer or fan. Wear old clothes. There will be no formal presentation, just basic instructions and process. $25 each will include finished silk scarf, 54” X 9”, pleated. NOV 8, 2010 - Natasha Lehrer from Esther’s Place will demonstrate how to make a “Hammered Copper Pin“ as pictured. We will be using semi-precious stones and beads with 16 gauge copper wire to create a gorgeous pin. $28 per person includes all materials. DEC 13, 2010 – “Using Your Yarns; A Look at the Creative Process” - Patsy Sue Zawistowski will present a slide show and tell us about her own creative journeys. She will also give hints to help us tame the treasure in our stash. A true fiberholic, Patsy will share joys and frustrations, as she encourages us to stop saving our super skeins and use them! JAN 10, 2011 – ? FEB 14, 2011 – Book Binding by Cheryl Mahowald – Using handmade paper sheets, create your own story book from the paper we made in September. She will bring samples of paper for the lecture, show techniques, history, and demonstrate pouring techniques. Materials included. Wear old clothes. $25 each (*Alternate Location) MAR 14, 2011 – ? APR 11, 2011 – “Artist Trading Cards” (ATC’s) by Sandra Willard. ATC’s are individual art miniatures which pass hand to hand, via trade. They are originals or a limited edition series; size limited to 2.5”X3.5”. Sandra has lots of examples of her work in various media. Sandra has prepared a power point presentation highlighting the history, meaning, rules and etiquette of ATC’s.
