JANUARY 2010
• Pizza postcards
and pizza for
lunch!
Brrr!
• Valentines and
cookies for a
sweet ending!
Picture this if you will. A not
not-so-little
little blonde haired woman is huddled over
her computer, wearing three layers of shirts, the warmest sweatpants she
can find, socks, bedroom slippers and a pair of fingerless mitts so she can
type. Oh, and an afghan on h
her lap. I thought I liked cold weather.
Shoveling snow, walking the dogs – well, I’ve already had my quota for this
year!
I’m looking forward to our January meeting.
Pizza postcards and
Valentines! A dual presentation by Monica Kent and Sue Chemler. I haven’t
made Valentines in years, but this year I may see if I can combine what
Monica and Sue are doing into a few very spe
special
cial cards for friends and
relatives.

Remember: the January meeting – and only the January meeting will be at the Downers Grove Public Library
Library.. See you there!

What’s happening in Chicago and surrounding areas in which
DTAG members would be interested? Art fairs, gallery shows,
conferences, even fun shops! Do you know of places where we
can go get inspiration or find much needed supplies for our art?
Are you showing or selling your art at any of these places?
Drop me a line and I’ll include the information in the next issue of

Time for a New Challenge!
Get ready! It’s coming! Sue and I will unveil the new
Challenge at the January meeting. The plan is to present
the idea in January and see the results in May at our
Spring Luncheon.
We enjoyed seeing the very different interpretations of the
greeting card that were presented at the December
meeting. Thanks to all who brought in their completed
projects and to those who started but didn’t get a chance
to finish them. Here’s hoping that we have a little more and less busy - time for this one!
We cannot waste time. We can
only waste ourselves.

The results are in! Below are the meeting schedule and topics for 2010/2011.
Looks like some fun times are headed our way!
SEPT 13, 2010 – Papermaking Workshop with Carolyn & Mary Mueller - We will
th
make paper sheets for use in the Book Binding Workshop on Feb. 14 with Cheryl
Mahowald. Join Mary and Carolyn for a day of creative fun. We will explore three
different papermaking types:
EMBEDDING--adding pieces of thread, dried flower petals, seeds or spices to a
sheet of paper.
EMBOSSING--creating a raised or recessed design on a sheet of paper.
CASTING/MOLDING--using a cookie cutter to make a formed shape.
Use your creation to make a wall hanging or special card. Each participant will take
home a few sample sheets. The supply list will be given when you sign up.
Bring a dedicated blender if you have one. (*Alternate Location)
OCT 11, 2010 – Shibori Workshop - Diana Urso (*Alternate Location) – We will
make a silk shibori scarf. Materials will be required: plastic pipe, dyes, foam
brushes, mixing cups, water, strong string, masking tape, iron & board, hair dyer or
fan. Wear old clothes. There will be no formal presentation, just basic instructions
and process. $25 each will include finished silk scarf, 54” X 9”, pleated.
NOV 8, 2010 - Natasha Lehrer from Esther’s Place will demonstrate how to make a
“Hammered Copper Pin“ as pictured. We will be using semi-precious stones and
beads with 16 gauge copper wire to create a gorgeous pin. $28 per person includes
all materials.
DEC 13, 2010 – “Using Your Yarns; A Look at the Creative Process” - Patsy Sue
Zawistowski will present a slide show and tell us about her own creative journeys.
She will also give hints to help us tame the treasure in our stash. A true fiberholic,
Patsy will share joys and frustrations, as she encourages us to stop saving our
super skeins and use them!
JAN 10, 2011 – ?
FEB 14, 2011 – Book Binding by Cheryl Mahowald – Using handmade paper
sheets, create your own story book from the paper we made in September. She will

pouring techniques. Materials included. Wear old clothes. $25 each (*Alternate
Location)
MAR 14, 2011 – ?

work in various media. Sandra has prepared a power point presentation highlighting
the history, meaning, rules and etiquette of ATC’s.
