Accreditation for Senior Leadership in Catholic Education
Senior Leaders in Catholic Education have the necessary qualifications, background
knowledge and a professional commitment to the Vision and Mission of Catholic
Education.
Senior leaders are Catholic with an ongoing, demonstrable commitment to their own faith
journey, the Catholic faith community, the Catholic Tradition and the teachings of the
Catholic Church in the area of faith and morals along with regular participation in Sunday
Eucharist and, more generally, in the life of the parish.
Principals, Assistant Principals and Religious Education Coordinators are considered to be
senior leaders in a Catholic School.
In order to be accredited as a senior leader in Catholic schools, leaders must complete:
1. A minimum of four units of Postgraduate study in Religious Education through a
Catholic University or
2. A Master Degree in Religious Education or Theology through a Catholic Tertiary
Institution and
3. Category D Accreditation and
4. Category C Accreditation and
5. Category B Accreditation and
6. Category A Accreditation
Category E accreditation requirements apply to:
 Director of Catholic Education
 Deputy Director
 Heads of Religious Education and Curriculum Services; School Services
 Catholic Identity and Religious Education Team Members
 Principals, Assistant Principals, Religious Education Coordinators, Campus Heads
