1. Switch machine to the Circular Knitting
setting. Turn the handle on the addi Express
until the first black needle (marked “1”) is
raised. Hook the yarn under this needle and
turn handle to raise next needle (marked
“2”)Move the yarn BEHIND needle 2 and
turn the handle to raise needle 3. Move the
yarn to the front again, hooking it under
needle 3. Continue to turn crank and move
the yarn position between front and back of
needles. The yarn should ‘hook’ under all
the odd-numbered needles (see right).
2. When you reach the first black needle
again, place yarn in gold yarn loader and
close, then continue to crank, keeping
gentle tension on the yarn. There should be
a loop of yarn around every other needle
on the first round, and every needle from
row two on. If a loop drops off the needle,
note the number and fix it on the next
round using a crochet hook. This is easiest
when stitches are ‘active’, meaning they’re
in front of the yarn loader (see left).
3. When you are finished with the first color, join
new yarn. To join new yarn, remove yarn from
loader, place the old and new strands towards the
middle of the machine making certain the new
yarn is under the hook of the active needle. Turn
a few cranks. Tie a knot with these two strands,
making sure knot is securely underneath red arm
(see right).
4. To bind-off, cut yarn, leaving a 18-20” tail. Using a
tapestry needle, scoop stitches off of the just cranked
loops, working from the inside (see left). Draw closed
once all stitches are worked and weave in all ends.
Repeat this process with along the cast-on edge.
